I wonder if/when they are competitive, if I’ll be able to buy a China desktop.
The way things are going they are probably coming up with some interesting ARM or RISCV stuff.
That’s what I was thinking, yeah.
If you live in the US probably not.
Yeah, if I lived in the US it wouldn’t be a question. But seeing as there’s no domestic chip manufacturing in my country there’s no loyalty question for me; whatever tech I get, I’m ceding some power to a foreign state so it doesn’t matter so much which I pick.
They’re not doing it quietly, corporate espionage is one of the biggest risks companies and governments look at when handing out work visas and hiring Chinese.
Quietly? I feel like Ive been seeing this loudly across media for quite some time
The reporter probably considered nothing less than a nuclear first strike a"loud" announcement 🤣
Inaccurate title. As the article states, they have major sanctions against them and are developing their domestic chip market out of necessity, frequently vocally condemning the sanctions.
this comes as no big surprise, given usa’s sanctions and bans.
yeah, its not like they had much choice. the article has a pretty weird framing
It’s an economist article. Of course it’s garbage.
But at what cost…?
