PSA: if you can, please get a second opinion on any dental work done, some dentist have a habit to call everything a cavity and will drill and fill your healthy teeth to be able to charge the insurance company.
Speaking from experience, I have filling’s on almost every one of my teeth from when I was younger. My parents were to easy to be convinced and assumed dentists were experts and not business owners.
It’s been a thinly veiled secret that the dentistry industry in Canada is rife with charlatans recommending and performing unbeneficial procedures. It shouldn’t be too surprising that there’s going to be an increase in scrutiny on these practices, and that it’ll result in a lot of rejected requests.

I just hope it doesn’t end up going too far in the opposite direction, and necessary procedures are cancelled or delayed.
That said, it also seems like a lot of these rejected claims are from mistakes in the filing process, and these should lessen as providers get acclimated.
This has been my gripe with the national insurance plan - I think we should’ve started a national dentist service (or a CHA equivalent where we fund provinces to run a service) and not just run an insurance plan for private providers. Either that or regulation and standardization of pricing and care delivery.
Especially appointing sun life the administrator. What a slap in the face to Canadians.
A dentist friend says the administrator for the national program (Sun Life?) is much pickier and harder to work with than private insurers.
Is that a bad thing? I dunno. I assume they don’t want to rubber stamp public expenditures, but it seems weird to be picky about cleanings for the poor.
