What is with all this CBC bashing lately? I’ve said written it before, I’ll write it again: the CBC isn’t perfect, but no one who actually follows the CBC can in all honesty claim that they’re not regularly showing the horrors happening in Gaza in plenty of detail, saying who’s doing it, and putting the BS coming from the Israeli government into its horrific context.

Makes me wonder if there’s an astroturfing campaign going on. Let’s not forget, the right would love to be rid of the CBC.

Personally, I love the CBC and will fight vigorously to defend it.

But at the same time, no media outlet should ve held above legitimate criticism; and CBC has been particularly bad for ‘both sides-ism’ lately for very clear-cut issues. That’s sloppy and dangerous behaviour, and has to be called out.

I don’t know which contents coming from the CBC you’re consuming but what I see almost every day is very far from “both sides-ism”

I think their coverage evolved a bit over the year and while it’s fair to say that it might have been slow to pick up the right tone, nowadays the coverage is very much on the “another day of ongoing genocide” side of coverage spectrum.

Just spent 2 weeks somewhere where there was nothing but CBC radio. Their coverage isn’t perfect, but they do a better job than a lot of outlets.

And the fact that places like that exist is yet another reason to support CBC.

Just because for-profit media has abandoned an area doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to have coverage.

Probably a bit of both. Disingenuous right is definitely a thing but it’s also true that you will never be left enough for some leftists.

      Can confirm, as leftist.

The CBC has improved in tone and coverage on Gaza, but improved from a very bad position. The coverage was strongly pro-Israel in bias for a long time. I support the CBC broadly, but they have undermined their own credibility substantially. They have deserved to be bashed.

I’m in no place to deny this has been a real issue and in May this person was in the right to whistleblow this but: 1) this is not current; and 2) does not invalidade the statement made:

the CBC isn’t perfect, but no one who actually follows the CBC can in all honesty claim that they’re not regularly showing the horrors happening in Gaza in plenty of detail, saying who’s doing it, and putting the BS coming from the Israeli government into its horrific context.

As someone who watches their news broadcasts literally every day, I agree with the above.

Canadian Dimension is the longest-standing voice of the left in Canada

not just the right, the radicalized left would like to get rid of liberal broadcasters. why? don’t ever ask them to have a plan, but their effect is to get the far right elected

Sowing the seeds of doubt in the minds of Canadians so we don’t freak out as much when the next conservative federal government axes CBC in the first 60 days of office.

Can’t have a flawed news system that actually tells the truth! How does that help the billionaires?

Seeing as how we’re coming up on the UNGA meeting again this month, anyone else remember how Kris Reyes misrepresented the facts when covering the Israeli delegation’s speech last year? She completely avoided mention of the mass protest walkout by other member states and instead spoke more about the cheers and applause from the people in the general audience balcony seats that Israel had bussed in to cheer for them (without mention that Israel had brought those people for support).

It was gross, and total journalistic malpractice that mislead CBC News viewers.

Kris Reyes is still working there. Never a correction. Never an apology.
