I’ve seen demakes that turn it into a side scroller but I would love to see it still be a first person, open-world adventure game, with extensive use of Mode 7.
Don’t forget the SNES could do 3D as well with the Super FX chip.
Barely, though…
We’re never really got to see what the super fx2 chip could do, with regards to 3d.
Starfox 2 did eventually come out on SNES Mini. (And was kicking around emulator sites for years prior.)
But… okay. There was a demoscene trend where groups ported the abstract polygonal fly-through “ST-NICC” to various platforms. At Revision 2019 someone showed off an SNES version that performed admirably. SuperFX homebrew software is very rare and IIRC the dude had to do his own hardware experiments. And then half an hour later Titan showed off a stock Genesis version that kicked its ass.
Wouldn’t it basically just look like daggerfall?
They managed to make Doom on SNES, without Mode 7.
Have you ever seen it running? It runs at a resolution of approximately 20i and the background music is hilarious. You know how the SNES had a very capable sound chip that could do amazing things if the composer bothered to provide decent samples, but everyone who wasn’t David Wise didn’t bother and used that standard set of sound fonts especially that one specific strings orchestra sound?
So like Drakkhen.
So like Might and Magic 1? Look up game play footage of it, its a trip.
That is almost but not quite a SNES cartridge, it’s weird. Like those two details on the front feel like they’re referring to the console’s power and reset switches?
Loved the song
That’s incredible. It has some real Chrono Trigger vibes.
And wow, Made 11 years ago… do we still have people doing this?
Dovakin’s Quest
