Trump administration must fund SNAP payments during the shutdown, judges rule
Two federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously on Friday that President Donald Trump’s administration must continue to fund SNAP, the nation’s biggest food aid program, using contingency funds during the government shutdown.
It wasn’t immediately clear how quickly the debit cards that beneficiaries use to buy groceries could be reloaded after the ruling. That process often takes one to two weeks.

So they’ll just deny the court order and delay action by appealing, then what?
What he always does … keep ignoring court orders untill rulled in his favour.
Pretty much this. It’ll get appealed all the way to the SC, where Thomas will write a decision saying “actually all funding is at the President’s sole discretion” and that’ll be it.
I think even that is being generous. With how eager this court has been to genuflect to him, I’d expect the ruling to be something more akin to “On clear reading, all government power and authority is derived from the Executive exclusively, including that which is graciously and magnanimously extended to all other branches of government.”
Then trumps famine will begin
Good. Appealing this will force him to take ownership of starving people. He will still lie, but maybe a few more people will see the light.
Anyone who hasn’t seen the light by now never will.
You can’t just lose hope, especially when things are getting worse and worse by the week.
It does take a long time for anything that the federal government does to actually affect your life or someone you know in a noticeable way. Lots of things might get slightly better or worse, but won’t be directly attributable to government, like policies that affect the economy. Other things might get MUCH better or worse, but only for a few people at a time.
Especially if you’re dumb, these things can be hard to notice. Some people don’t believe us because we’ve been saying the train is coming for a year now and they haven’t seen it. But when they do get hit by it, or they see someone close enough, well… it can start to get through to them.
And we need those few percentage points. It’s important to get people to vote against this shit, assuming we still get to vote at all. Be aware that there’s also levels of cheating in voting. If they do things that suppress the vote by 5%, with the extreme shit they’re doing, we could gain more than 10 points.
Voting still matters. Even if they cheat.
I like you.
The bulk of them won’t but there’s a constant little trickle of people realizing it each day
There’s a lot of people who are living in a bubble of lies. Sometimes the truth breaks through. That’s a chance to shatter the right wing media illusion.
If your holding out hope for the MAGA’s to one-day see the light and change their ways, then I urge you to stop. Narcissists and their ilk don’t operate like that.
A lot are just dupes who got sucked in by right wing media. The truth can break through if it’s big enough.
In this case the headline actually works to our advantage. It’s clear that Trump is the one fucking with food benefits. Tomorrow, between that and the new healthcare exchange rates being out, he’s going to be more unpopular than ever - even some of his base are going to have pitchforks.
Exactly this. His starving base will see exactly how a
rougerogue president isn’t good for the country now that it affects them. He’s not rouge, he’s orange.
It is a good question. Public servants who refuse to follow it will be risking personal liability. That is a big deal for mid-level government workers when people will die as a result of their action or inaction.
What do you think WE should do about it?
Vote in 2026, flip the House, get a 67 Seat Democratic majority in the Senate, impeach him a 3rd time and actually remove him this time, followed by his mandated jail time on his felony convictions.
You do know that none of that is going to happen, right?
Well the question was “what do you think we should do about it”, that’s what I think we should do. 😉
OK, fine. What do you think is likely to happen? And, when that likely thing happens… What do you think we should do about it then?
Most likely event is Trump dies from a stroke before anything meaningful can happen. Then we vote out J.D. Vance in 2028.
vance is currently allegedly wooing ERIKA kirk to be his potential first lady, since she unlike usha who is aethist, she is a good “trad wife”
Trump’s mother died at 88, and his father died at 93. I don’t think Trump (who’s 79) is in as poor of health as people have been speculating. I’d be genuinely surprised if he had a major stroke anytime soon.
hes only really overweight, possibly pre-diabetic, doubtful he has any serious symptoms. although he might have circulatory problems. trump is also a extreme germaphobe so he mostly goes the doctor the instant has any “disease”, rather than blow it off.
OK, if you’re just going to tell me to fuck off just say fuck off
If you have something to say just say it. Don’t goad someone else to say it on your behalf.
That could go so many ways
@tornavish@lemmy.cafe @snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world All I know at this point is the orange man isn’t gonna be there, or so he says.
He won’t die until his 90s
@tornavish@lemmy.cafe I meant in office— I saw an NPR article claming (I say claiming, beacuse we already know he gonna try to subvert the rules when he knows his stance will corrode his ego) that he would not run for another term.
i dont think many senate seats are up for grabs, its the house seats. until '28 there will be more senate seats in trouble. hence why some of the DNC are so confidant in supporting the Israel genocide of gaza, thier seats are safe.
33 seats up for election in 2026:

Ordinarily I’d say most of these are safe, but if the No Kings can draw out enough people? Maybe?
Don’t forget letters to the editor of your local paper.
You know who actually reads those?
Elderly people who ACTUALLY READ AND VOTE
