A call for perverts to goon. Not even going to show the content.

Edit: Even kids younger than 15 y/o who have a smartphone use Whatsapp.

I don’t understand why this is just ok everywhere. People are swearing off American tech in droves, yet somehow this one gets a free pass.

FYI a lot of Indian government agencies use WhatsApp for their everyday operations. Most Indians don’t care about the US stuff, all they need is WhatsApp

I still don’t get it. If WhatsApp is ok, why not Facebook messenger? Why not instagram dm’s? Meta alleges that WhatsApp is “encrypted”, but why would anyone believe that? Is “trust me bro” good enough for the government of a nuclear power? And yes I know the US is no better, but India’s government relying on a commercial product from an American spy company is bonkers. It would be like the the EU using WeChat.

WhatsApp is at least E2EE but Instagram isn’t even E2EE. Even Facebook Messenger is safer. Although, out of all the Meta apps, WhatsApp is the safest bet. I’m not necessarily promoting and saying you should use WhatsApp but just saying that it’s a safer bet. If you want an actual privacy respecting messaging app, check out Signal. If you wanna be anonymous, use SimpleX Chat

The encryption happens client side, so it’s easy to verify that it’s happening.

Metadata sent with messages (who you’re talking to, when the message was sent etc) isn’t encrypted.

There’s still no reason to believe that they don’t have a back door to the message content. It’s closed source, and they’re an evil company whose entire business model is surveillance through lack of privacy. I know where I would put my chips.

The last time i haar fb messenger installed is years ago, but it used to drain the battery like crazy. Much more than whatsapp.
