He should stick to Linux distros and his emacs stuff. This kind of content isn’t appropriate for him or representative of his channel really.

I think he learned from this, cause this is a rather old video and I no longer see any other sort of content like it on his channel.

So, downvoters, just because someone has a different view on a political issue than you, you just throw them out with the bathwater? Granted, a Linux channel is not the best place to expouse on gun rights. Maybe he should’ve kept it to himself, but he has the right to do it. But we don’t need to agree on everything.

Now I haven’t watched the video yet, if he says something outrageous, I’m going to eat crow.

Because political discussions on the internet are usually performed without proper seriousness of the action and have hidden negative (usually minor though) and destructive consequences to the members’ and the viewers’ psychological health. They overall make the world more aggressive and separated which has never caused anything good. Therefore, spreading political discussions like this is a contribution to aggression and general evilness which is a questionable move. It’s not like I’m judging you though. I know most of the people that do it just don’t know about it and want to have fun or get popular. Doing this in questionable ways is not great but that’s another topic. I don’t wanna write a speech here lol (and it’s not like I can either)

Right, but this kinda has nothing to do with Linux. So I can understand why he didn’t want it here. I’m for openly discussing topics, but it should be on topic. Even if he talks a little bit about Linux, I feel like it’s just an excuse to post it everywhere about Linux, which is pretty much everywhere.

Lemmy folks don’t even read the article or watch the video in the title, they just react. Several of my anti-casteist news articles posted on /c/india@lemmy.ml, were down-voted to oblivion.

Don’t think downvotes should be a thing tbh. Just enforces majority opinion even when it’s wrong.

Some instances like Hexbear, Reddthat and Blahaj have downvotes disabled though.
