Agreed. I didn’t realize he died so long ago. Tho I am very envious that you saw him perform live.

Wow that is a lot. Thank you – and RIP David Bowie. The others, too, of course. I was thinking Muhammad Ali died circa Bush as potus. Huh. And Elie Wiesel must have been like 90+. Like he was married when he was put in a concentration camp (and his wife was killed there🙁).
Who died? I stopped keeping track after …hmmm would it be funnier to say Kurt Cobain (RIP) or James Brown (RIP)?

1·8 days agoI agree with you, but something jumped out at me while reading this thread. To a degree, the fear of “breaking something” is completely legitimate, but it’s based on not getting quick feedback from systems. For instance, if you are walking in a direction that you think is east, but the sun is setting ahead of you, you know you’re headed in the wrong direction. Computers often don’t provide such useful feedback, often leading users to “break things.”

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is anyone planning on forking Plasma to restore X11 support when it is dropped?
103·9 days agoIn fairness, x11 is a bit of a dumpster fire and has been as long as I’ve used Linux (since 2003).
Dear god, please don’t let comedians refer to the internet – talk about cringe.
But hopefully with less overt racism.
I remain to be convinced people aren’t already stupid.
I don’t follow. What am I missing?
Is that Sarah scribbles??
Me, I’m big on free, but I recently noticed something… What was it?.. Someone told an anecdote about something they valued, and it seemed clear that it was because they paid. And it got me to thinking money is effectively now what church was thru the 1990s. And, like, is that weird and probably dysfunctional? Yes. Does that make it less true? No.
Your bar is high! Does it boot to a GUI? That’s mine, and it sounds like it doesn’t – so no YT.
/shrug that’s gotta be the most being scam I’ve ever heard.
Agreed. I think of that scene from the end of The Truman Show: the viewers are transfixed, Truman is trying to break free from the set. Then, the show goes off the air, and a viewer at home says, “Alright. What else is on?”
That’s how I feel about the outrage-bait now. Like so many businesses built their castles on beach sand that they’re inevitably getting washed away. How did they not see that coming?
By the way, if you’re not already familiar, check out Shintaro Kago – very Dalí-ish.

Ah, OK. I didn’t realize Lemmy was designed to be similar to Reddit. That’s a relief.
I feel like Reddit has tried to “own” references to bacon, narwhals, some autumn month where men don’t shave, and various memes. I kinda don’t blame them for monetizing drawings and words, but as I’m sure they know very well by now, wall street wants that and.
