It’s really sad, they totally grew on me. They rarely missed the tone of past trek, including it in episodes.

I’m just a little salty about how they portrayed Rom.

My impression was, that they somehow ignored Rom’s character development he had in DS9, he became the Grand Nagus because of his ways of doing things.

In the LD episode he really only did silly stuff, while his wife handled the more serious stuff with the captain.

Or i remember his development on DS9 much deeper than it really was.

I think it might be time for a rewatch of the series.

My interpretation of Rom’s portrayal was that he was playing up the simple earnestness of the character, as a ploy to lull Admiral Vassery into accepting the terms of deal as part of a test to see if the Federation had the lobes to be viable allies to the Ferengi Alliance.

You should definitely rewatch that episode, he’s playing dumb to test the Captain’s ability to swindle and swindler.

Lower decks is the only star trek my kids give a damn about, we’ve watched every season together. The only reason they even considered watching SNW is cause they knew Mariner and Boimler were in the episode.

I’m going to really miss it.

Glad to have you mention that here.

So many fans of the older shows assume that Lower Decks isn’t accessible to new viewers who don’t get the references, but it’s quite the opposite. Gen Z and younger viewers are into animated comedies and it’s a successful entry point. And with the number of middle schoolers who got into manga and anime during the pandemic, the portion of the audience that prefers animation as a medium is only going to grow.

Our teens were fans of the Voyager when they were in middle school, and sampled the rest of the classic shows. Despite that they seem to be split on the animated vs live action new shows, and none of them would watch Picard.

It’s a real shame that there won’t be any new animated Star Trek after this season of Lower Decks.

All the posters are pretty good except season 1’s was kind of underwhelming and not as good a pastiche of the TMP poster. I think it was also how the noses were shaded.

Like pretty much everyone here, I’ll miss Lower Decks as well. During my various watches, I realized that Bradward Boimler is probably the most relatable Star Trek character for me. I think to be a Boimler, you have to want to be another character, then realize you are trying way too hard to be that character. For instance, I thought Data was the ST character I was most like (and Rutherford the LD character), and then I slowly realized I was more so a Boimler.
