Is there ever any explanation for that style of armour that so many people in DBZ wear?
It has a single origin. Sayayin culture. Remember Vegeta was a sayayin, and he and his friends introduced that type of armor when they landed on earth for the first time.
*Saiya-jin or Saiyan, if you prefer the english version. The word Saiya is supposed to be a pun on the japanese word Yasai (野菜), meaning vegetable.
But Frieza’s troops also wear them, and so does Frieza himself (in his weakest form, before he breaks it) despite looking down on the Saiyajin. So are you sure it was the Saiyajin who introduced it to Frieza’s empire, and not the other way around?
I believe sayans used it because they were under Friza’s rule.

Dragon Ball Z was and always shall be one of the most important franchises in my life. This news is incredibly sad to hear. What a legend and influence. RIP Mr. Toriyama.
