Four detainees have escaped from a federal immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey, amid reports of disorder breaking out there, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

More “law enforcement partners” have been brought in to find the detainees missing from Delaney Hall, according to an emailed statement attributed to a senior DHS official whom the department did not identify. The statement also didn’t specify which law enforcement agencies are involved. The identifies of the people who escaped are unknown.

Kim said he had heard about problems related to food and an odor in the water. Kim also said it seems as if there will be “major movements” of detainees out of the facility over the next 24 hours. He said he was seeking “full confirmation” about that.

They broke through a wall like a goddamn Shawshank speedrun.

It sounds like the facility is literally rotting and falling apart. How much are we spending on ICE, again?

Thought I remembered reading that this was a contracted private prison. So, it’s more of a problem of underfunding gov owned prisons in favor of over funding private prisons.

Less than 10% of US prisoners are housed in for-profit prisons. But prisons don’t have to be for-profit to be corrupt as fuck.
