I killed 9 plants this year between the racoons and the weather, this is my last one. It’s 6 weeks old and taller than the tomato cage so on the one hand I’m not tripping that bad but on the other hand I feel like a failure for killing 9 plants. Hopefully the bud’s good 👍

    The way she goes man, its nature and sometimes nature can be harsh. Its easy to get all tree hugging hippie attached to the plants you grow for sure at the end of the day though they’re just plants. You were gonna kill ‘harvest’ em yourself for their flower anyways.

        Also, I don’t know how long you’ve been growing but, when I first started I killed about 15 plants before they even germinated by using the wrong water. Our well water was apparently killing seeds and I had to switch to distilled water for germination. No problems since then.

          This only my second outdoor season, but I’ve done probably 9 indoor cycles. Definitely still learning!

            This is my second outdoor season as well. Last year i lost 5 big plants to grey mold (botrytis), I believe from a combination of caterpillars and wild strawberries nearby.

              That sucks dude holy cow! I had caterpillars last year too, fortunately they weren’t in all my bud. I’m also scared of botrytis now, I grow strawberries probably 40ft from my cannabis patch.

                Thanks, yeah it did. They were autoflowers thankfully so I only lost like 3 months of time but it still stung having to trash it all. How’s the humidity where you are? I learned that botrytis needs three things to attack your plant:

                1. a host (the strawberries)
                2. an initial food supply. an open wound on the plant is all it takes.
                3. this is the big one, and the one i was warned about but ignored, HUMIDITY. I’m on the east coast and it got incredibly humid last summer.

                As long as you can control for 2 of the 3 you should keep the mold at bay. I built a cheapo cage out of 1x2s and window screening to keep out the moths, as well as some some outdoor rated fans to help with the humidity. The strains I’ve grown so far definitely need defoliation so I can’t do much about not having open wounds on the plant. I’ve found college extension websites to be a very reliable source of free information if you want to do some reading!

                  I’m in the Midwest and it’s peak corn sweat season 😂 I live up on a bluff though and it’s super windy up here so hopefully that saves me. I had some pretty big buds last year with no signs of rot 🤞
