This is utterly absurd. Support genocide or be denied emergency aid. At this rate, communist China makes more sense.

What? How is this related to China?

China’s shithole, evil circus is not looking as bad as America’s shithole, evil circus right now.

        That help?

I’m with wizblizz that the China part of your comment makes no sense. China’s Ministry of Emergency Management does not withhold emergency funds if provinces refuse to commercially support israels genocide of the Palestinians.

OK just to spell it out. A repressive overbearing regime who disappears people and censors everything at this point is more reasonable than Trump’s America.

Thanks! I wasn’t making the connection at all. Yes, its disgusting the closest parallel to the current administration is an authoritarian regime.

The parallels are strong TBH. And not in a good way.

if the federal government can condition federal funds this way, then states can condition their states contribution to federal taxes

Employers and employees are the ones paying those taxes. If this could work at all, it’d only be taxes from businesses that don’t cross state lines. And I suspect feds would raid even those and arrest the owners.

And unfortunately there’s a long history of this, like denying interstate highway funds to states that wouldn’t raise the drinking age.

I mean, from what we saw in the Texas flooding, it seems like no one is getting that disaster relief regardless of how hard they support genocide.

Aside: I love how evenly Reuters reports this crazy situation.

Not that they’re always perfect, but that’s how journalism is done (even with the paywall, unfortunately…)
