Strange bedfellows, indeed.

Idk man. She’s been talking about leaving the Republican party, about women’s issues, labor issues, and she’s been calling the genocide a genocide. I’m not sold that she has fully woken up and smelled the roses, but she is definitely having some change of heart.

Remember this is the Jewish space lasers woman.

Her siding against Israel is hardly as surprising when you remember her past.

My loose theory is this: the whole MAGA movement is powered by people who (rightfully) believe the American system is broadly working against them. As a result, they distrust any authority or expert on anything and accept the first contrarian viewpoint they hear. I think there’s a possibility that MAGA politics has gotten so widespread that she’s too contrarian to accept it. I doubt she’s actually seeing the world as it is, but there’s a possibility she’s become more open to other contrarian narratives. We’ll see if that’s true. Luckily, I’m not a constituent of her’s so I don’t have to think about it that hard.

The alternative that I’ve heard is that this “change of heart” isn’t genuine and it’s just to gain power. I can’t rule that out but her actions haven’t been those of a greedy power-grabber. I think she’s often been true to her principles even when that hurts her politically. Her principles are fucked up and based on a warped world-view, but I think she is principled.

Pam Bondi is the example I would give for someone that is just going for power. When she was doing the whole Epstein thing, it was made into a big media circus with influencers and no real substance. I think she saw this as her moment to become a rising star on the right, without much thought to the crimes or justice of the situation. That didn’t work out for her, but the intentions behind the actions were pretty clear. If MTG is just making power plays, she’s pretty bad at it.

If she’s rose-adjacent, I’ll take it. Especially if it’s a Golden Girls reference.
