Absurd! No home appliance should require an internet service. More enshittification.
Hahaha.
I just replaced a 20 year old dishwasher with it’s newer equivalent: it has a grand total of 3 cycle options.
Screw this surveillance nonsense. Why does a dishwasher need connectivity? It’s a box that sprays water.
A friend has one that the fastest cycle is 1.5 hours. One cycle is four hours… Wtf?
The apps are bullshit but the slower cycles take less water and energy, which is definitely a positive.
Idk why the speed is a big deal to folks, it’s not like you have to sit there and babysit it, just hit play and go do something else
Because I cook, and need that stuff back. I don’t have all day, I gotta cook again in a few hours.
Sometimes I find out I forgot to turn on the dishwasher an hour before dinner. A fast option is nice then.
In an emergency, I’m sure you could hand wash a few things.
So here’s the hot take I took from his video: yeah, an internet connected dishwasher is dumb, but so is a LAN connected dishwasher. “I don’t want to have to maintain my own app to run this thing, keep this thing secure,” damn straight. That little open source app is probably gonna get abandoned at some point, I don’t want to have to fork it and fix things and patch vulnerabilities. I want a strictly Dumb dishwasher.
You personally don’t have to. That’s the beauty of open source, someone else can create/maintain that app and you can benefit, but only if the apis are open.
I don’t get it. Why do people buy connected appliances, then complain about them being connected? Last year I bought all my appliances from AEG and none of them are connected, they are pretty good and they run based on button programming.
So Bosch is consistently anti-repair, huh. Not surprising
I think that’s on people who do no research before making big item purchases.
I have one, I hate it. I can’t wait for the day it breaks, I try to warranty it, and it tells them I missed a cleaning cycle and voided the warranty or some crap like that…
Oh and the ‘buttons’ are laggy as hell.
Of course it’s app dependent. Within the year those features will cost to be unlocked with a monthly fee.
