They have reported smelly drinking water, moldy mattresses, dusty blankets, freezing air conditioning and officials’ tardy response to requests for medical aid.

One worker in the chat accused guards of pulling their eyes sideways in a racist gesture against Asians. “The racial discrimination and sneering — and how the United States viewed us — will linger long in my heart,” the worker wrote.

Propaganda 101. They spin it in the beginning:

Some of the workers arrested this month at a Hyundai-LG factory said that although they had entered the United States under murky circumstances, they had always planned to return home.

And then, way further down, they write that there’s no actual evidence that these workers broke any laws:

U.S. and South Korean authorities have not disclosed the visa details for the 317 Koreans who were arrested on Sept. 4. But five of the six engineers The Times interviewed were on six-month B-1 visas, which allow consulting with business associates. One traveled on the 90-day visa-waiver program called the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA, which allows travel for business or pleasure. They all said they were on business trips since they were being paid by their employers back in South Korea.

I know I state the obvious, but I can’t help myself: This is truly so very shameful.

Good. I hope we tank further. This is the only thing that will stop the creep of fascism. Over the rich realize they are losing money, and they are already, they will pull it back.

The problem is it won’t stop fascism. The rich aren’t actually losing much money.

But they have billions, and can shift investments. Right now is weird because everyone is uncertain, but companies will adjust and profit, not go under.

Nokia started out as a pulp mill in Finland. Companies will just change, as they have for millennia. The only people who actually suffer are you and I

But you see we have had numerous businesses fail especially in the last 10 to 20 years that have long histories. They’re not immune from failure while some may be able to shift and move many do fail and many people do lose millions and millions of dollars.

Google is your friend. I’m not naming all the companies that have failed in the past 20 years. But if you want 2, Lehman Brothers and Washington mutual. 100+ year old companies that crashed and burned.

Really heartbreaking that we treated our friendly allies like this, completely disgusting infact. Anyone not ashamed by this should really take a good look at themselves.

This is the third feature of Fascism.

Irrationalism also depends on the cult of action for action’s sake. Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation. Therefore culture is suspect insofar as it is identified with critical attitudes. Distrust of the intellectual world has always been a symptom of Ur-Fascism, from Goering’s alleged statement (“When I hear talk of culture I reach for my gun”) to the frequent use of such expressions as “degenerate intellectuals,” “eggheads,” “effete snobs,” “universities are a nest of reds.” The official Fascist intellectuals were mainly engaged in attacking modern culture and the liberal intelligentsia for having betrayed traditional values.

More like the illusion of what America claimed to be is gone. It’s never really been what it claimed to be, but the mask is fully off now because Trump is incapable of subtlety.

He is taking it further away from that ideal too, but the ideal has never been remotely close to real.

But I’m pretty sure there was an article that came out days after the raid saying that they just committed to investing another x billion in Georgia in spite of the raid.

I don’t have the link off hand, but someone probably does. Or if not, I could try finding it later.

I think they did the thing everyone has been doing with Trump and re-announced a deal already in place as if it were a concession

But if you find a link to the contrary I’d be interested

at this point if south koreans arnt willing to work, rightly so, they have to cut thier losses, and use another country like mexico, canada, or another south east asian country.
