Where I live if you label someone’s position as management they are still entitled to overtime unless 95% of their time is actually spent doing management. So the assistant manager in retail can help out on the cash register a bit if needed, but not do sales one day a week and the rest of the time management without overtime.
This is more about labeling every staff member they can as management so they don’t have to pay overtime.
