Hey news heads, I am the moderator/maintainer of !lefty_news@ibbit.at.

This was a very fun and rewarding side project, and the list of RSS feeds being published in this community was built collectively, with input from community members. However, a single community has its limitations! The more feeds I would stick into this community, the more things would lose focus, or less frequent feeds would be drowned out by more active ones. So for a long time now I’ve been rolling around the idea of spinning up my own, international-left focused site, where we can build feeds together for various regions and topics. I think with the eventual implementation of multi-communities, we’ll be able to build out all kinds of working-class news feeds.

Currently, there are three main feeds, !pravda_news@news.abolish.capital which hold most of the feeds that were tied to lefty_news, but I’ve split off feeds for !china@news.abolish.capital and !latam@news.abolish.capital . As more feeds are collected for various regions, I’ll build out new communities to house those feeds.

As it stands, lefty_news was the largest and most utilized community on ibbit.at. I think it’s rather unfortunate that the behavior of the instances admin would lead to the removal of this content for the users of db0 and lemmy.ml. This reality is what moved this project from back-burner to active for me. It also should go without saying that, I do not wish to be attached to someone willing to make transphobic comments. Trans rights are human rights!

Abolish Capital might expand into other sites and services; I have some other ideas floating around that I might want to experiment with. For right now, the front page of abolish.capital hosts the full text of the Communist Manifesto, you know, because I can! I view this as the start of a larger effort to build what I think is appropriately called The People’s Web or the Working-Class Web. A subsection of the Indieweb movement, built by working people for working people.
