People on the right think CNN is ultra-lefty. Meanwhile, CNN lets Republican also-rans spout shitty talking points unchallenged in prime time pointless debates.

That the fact checks link to other cnn articles as proof of the fact. The classified document one in particular states the lie is Biden said he had no highly classified material. The fact check states, linking to an article about people with high level cleaeance, that he indeed did. Then after the fact check paragraph, it says it is inconclusive if he did have any. Wtf is this.

It got you to click. 😕 It probably went into their metrics as an example of “yeah this one’s tracking pretty well.” That is the sad reality of most ad-supported journalism I think.

Here’s the actual special counsel report. I searched it out because I was very curious about that “and disclosed” part of “Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” but so far I haven’t learned all that much.

"All the stuff that was in my home was in filing cabinets that were either locked or able to be locked.”

Ehhh, I think there’s a difference between a locked filing cabinet indoors and a random bankers box in the garage.

All the links in this article lonk to other cnn articles as “facts”. Then goes on to say in one of the “fact checks” that it is inconclusive if he had highly classified documents after the fact was apparently he did.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Hur wrote that investigators looked into the possibility that the Afghanistan-related documents found in the box were previously stored in a filing cabinet when Biden lived in a rented home in Virginia before moving out in 2019.

Hur wrote that Biden notebooks containing classified information from his vice presidency were found by investigators in “unlocked drawers in the office and basement den” of the home.

Hur wrote that Biden “should have known” that as a private citizen as of 2017, “he was not permitted to keep handwritten notes about the President’s Daily Brief and other classified information in unlocked drawers in his home.”

For example, Hur wrote, the open box in Biden’s garage contained an Afghanistan-related memo from the National Security Adviser to President Barack Obama in 2009 marked “TOP SECRET/SCI” (Sensitive Compartmented Information).

Hur wrote that experts in the intelligence community said the document contains “highly sensitive information about the military programs of the United States and a foreign government.

The unauthorized disclosure of this information, both today and in 2017 when Mr. Biden was no longer vice president, reasonably could be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to the national security.”

The original article contains 1,317 words, the summary contains 192 words. Saved 85%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

It’s not a monolith of course, but I think it’s safe to say that the majority of the hivemind dislikes the indiscriminate slaughter and starvation of the innocent, but likes the preservation of American democracy enough to see through this week’s “reasons why this Democrat fucked up real big-time irrevocably, believe me it’s a tragedy, let’s strategically not mention the substance of what’s at stake in this campaign” talking point

So it’s just lemmy basically wants Biden to win but doesn’t know American politics well enough to know that stopping supporting Israel would likely tank Biden’s chances in the election?

No, because it’s super disingenuous to criticize Biden on it like Trump wouldn’t be way worse.

Yeah, this is my basic problem with Lemmy on this. Biden’s actions are largely the result of American political realities and trump would be way worse. Dangerously so.

Surely just because someone else would be worse, doesn’t mean you can’t criticize the current leader. That’s a very slippery slope if you go down that path.

Sure but that’s our point. We can sit here discussing the minutia of Biden and what little things he may or may not be doing correctly, meanwhile Trump supporters hear him say “I’ll be a dictator day 1” and get a boner so hard they need to call their doctor. We made this mistake by being balanced about our candidate before and we saw where it got us. I’d like to hear you suggest a realistically better choice for the average American than to support Biden continuing to be milquetoast

I don’t have an answer for you on that (non-US), but if the plan is to pretend the current leader makes no mistakes because the opposition is worse… that’s not going to be pretty 10 years down the track. Granted, I appreciate that alternative now is also not pretty.

I won’t claim to speak for “Lemmy.” It’s not a monolith. For myself, I wish the US would stop supporting Israel just like they’ve done for decades, because Likud is clearly full of bloodthirsty monsters, and whatever bloodthirsty monsters do also exist among Hamas, the IDF is doing most of the killing, and we’re actively arming them. Of course that doesn’t mean I want the apocalyptic nightmare that would be a second Trump presidency; among other reasons because it would usher in lots and lots more suffering similar to what’s currently going on in Gaza.

I think to the extent Lemmy’s thinking on it is defined as a single hivemind, they just like being super-leftist which means supporting innocent people who are on the losing end of violent geopolitics, and shitting on corporate candidates which broadly speaking includes Biden, and so that means they’re giving Biden hell about Gaza. Which, I won’t tell them they’re wrong to give him hell. But, if that helps Trump win, they definitely won’t be happy with that outcome, and yelling about how it’s not their fault definitely won’t do them any good when abortions are banned nationwide, Hispanics and trans people are treated like mid-1930s Jews, and their social media is monitored by properly-politically-minded censors backed by punishment of prison. That is the type of best case short-term outcome we could hope for. You may think I’m joking but I am absolutely not.
