Linux@programming.dev•Where is Linux not working well in your daily usage? Share your pain points as of 2026, so we can respectfully discuss
1·1 month agoI’m on openSUSE Tumbleweed using KDE Wayland
Sometimes my session will freeze up and I have to switch to tty and back to the GUI session to fix it.
I run a windows VM through winboat and it works well enough but it is particularly jank in regards to having multiple or even just 1 program open at times.
Every time I mount a veracrypt drive, baloorunner starts eating up my memory until I run out and I might have to hard reboot

1·2 months agoWow, very cool that this is still getting updates
The mouldking millenium falcon is my favorite ever build. Its even bigger than the UCS Lego version and has a fully furnished interior
I had this happen, and I updated, and now explorer doesn’t start or launch when I log in. I don’t use windows enough to justify reinstalling, so I just have a half broken windows install chilling in my PC

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an album with a completely unique sound
1·3 months agoThis is one of my favorite albums ever.
If anyone was wondering, I believe nearly the whole album is made up of samples.
The Avalanches have a ton of other stuff. If you are a fan of Since I Left You, definitely check out the Gimix version which starts similar but has a lot of different tracks in it (including much more famous songs) https://youtu.be/X7i8bIhJY8c

3·4 months agoIts kind of crazy they didn’t make it available on PC. Those graphics look *rough *. I have to imagine the late game turn time/performance is rough too. But, I haven’t played it since I don’t have any Meta devices

3·4 months agoSame boat! My reservation G2 is collecting dust and I’ve since moved to Linux. I really hope the frame works well when streaming from a Linux desktop

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•People who don't wear earphones outside - why, and what do you do instead?
7·4 months agoSame exactly for me. I listen to tons of music at work and at home on my own time. But never outside.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•WinBoat for containerised Windows apps on Linux adds custom install path, home folder sharing and moreEnglish
4·5 months agoI’ve been using it for a while. Probably at least a month, but I haven’t kept track.
It works well enough that ever since installing I’ve had 0 reason to boot into Windows. I use Lightroom Classic and Jpegmini on it. It can be a little buggy sometimes but overall it works really well. It works well enough that I’m okay with sacrificing GPU acceleration in LR with the convenience Winboat provides

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your reason for not flipping to Linux?
2·5 months agoI used to dual boot windows just for when I needed to run LR Classic or Photoshop but now I just use winboat which makes them usable in Linux in your desktop environment while under the hood its running through a VM. It works great except not having GPU acceleration hurts, but it was a compromise worth it to me to not have to reboot into and out of windows.
My Linux setup feels a little backwards from how I imagine you would usually do it becsuse my desktop has been on linux and my server has been on windows
I switched my desktop from windows 11 to tumbleweed about a year ago. My server (which is just another desktop that I only remote into) is still running windows 10. It sort of turned into the machine I run windows software on when I really need to, but I’ve been planning to install an actual server type OS onto it once windows 10 EOL hits. Still deciding which operating system, between something like tumbleweed with or without a DE, leap (lts), another distro entirely, or truenas.
