I live in DFW right now. I’ll admit i don’t commute through downtown proper daily, but even when i do go through downtown after work it’s bad, but not nearly as bad as plenty of other places in thr US.

15-45 minutes… I’m not exactly knowledgeable about pizza delivery logistics, so forgive me if I’m wrong about specifics. There was a decade or so where every chain promised delivery in 30 minutes or the pizza was free, but that’s no longer a guarantee these days.
Pizza delivery has electronically heated insulated containers for the drivers to keep the pizza in during the drive. Generally I think they group up orders so one delivery driver will hit up maybe 10-20 deliveries in that one run. It’s normally not driving 20 miles just to deliver one pizza.
Our cities aren’t densely built up, except for New York. The actual urban area of most cities generally has far fewer people than the suburban metroplex surrounding it. 6.5km is literally larger than all of downtown Dallas, depending on how you define downtown.
Even our cities are designed for car travel, so unless it’s rush hour you’re still faster by car. Unless there’s a concert or other event happening, it doesn’t take nearly 20 minutes to traverse downtown Dallas in a car.
Are you in the US? I’ve literally never seen a delivery driver on a bike, except for that action movie about bike couriers in NYC.
… Silk is used as a cold weather baselayer in active wear? Not sure if it performs differently as an outer layer, but it’s got solid insulating properties for keeping in heat
The biggest use of AI in my editing flow is masking. I can spend half an hour selecting all the edges of a person as well as I can, or I can click the button to select people. Either way I do the rest of my edits as normal.
I’ll say that if the really talented people are signing on to this, that could be noticeable. I know Amazon tends to just churn through devs every year, but actually good software engineers are surprisingly hard to find.
Zelle is free. It sucks, but it’s there.
The US is a representative democracy, not a direct democracy. You elect representatives to represent your interests. Or these days, you elect representatives to not represent the other people you don’t like.
I’m not exactly a deregulation fan, but this race to the bottom also democratized access to air travel. When the prices were fixed, they weren’t exactly fixed at anything near the cheap prices we have now (when adjusted for inflation).
They didn’t misspell “stream deck”
It doesn’t improve your credit. Source: my memory of various articles saying that, and my own 800+ credit score and having never carried a balance in my life.
My company was more flexible, but is getting less and less flexible over time. This correspondingly means I’m not going to be working late during crunches, by my own decision, since it’s not like they’re paying me for the extra time, or letting me take off a few hours here and there to make up for it the rest of the year.
This really represents how disenfranchised I feel these days, always having to spend my time voting for the lesser evil instead of someone who actually represents my interests.
It sounds like you’re describing the same thing that happened when we globalized manufacturing. Economists said everyone would retrain and go to other fields, but it just doesn’t seem to happen IRL.
Unironically, I do in fact do this all the time. I make large batches when I bake, so it’s easier to just tare and measure everything directly in the stand mixer bowl instead of scooping 16 cups. It’s also less clean up afterwards!
I really don’t get why automotive electronics makers are allergic to having a proper UX team, other than no one else in the industry has one either so it’s not a competitive disadvantage.
Is there anyone selling high quality dumb TV’s though?
The Forest is a good multiplayer survival crafting game, with a pretty cool story. The sequel is also already out I think.
