  • It started with a horrifying knife attack where the perpetrator stabbed 11 children and killing 3 of them. 2 adults were also stabbed. This attack horrified the nation.

News stories alleged that the perpetrator was an Islamic illegal immigrant, social media did what it does best: whipping up emotions and exaggeration and feeding it to people with poorer standard of education.

The background here is that there are concerns surrounding illegal immigration in the UK, as it is sold by criminal gangs as a country of neverending riches. Some opinions are justified, and some are not.

As you can imagine, far right organisation jumped on this as an excuse to encourage shitty behaviour, and the worst of them used it as an excuse to have a tantrum and damage peopkes properly, attack people of different ethnicities and get themselves locked up for it.

TL:DR : Horrible racist and bigoted individuals made a tragedy about them, and now we all have to deal with their shittiness.

  • It’s a difficult question.

A very large percentage of paedophiles are victims themselves. Children don’t have any characteristics that arouse me, and to dwell on the thought males me feel very uncomfortable indeed.

If a person is attracted to a child in a sexual manner, then for want of a better way of putting it, there has to be something wrong with that. Arguably that person needs help rather than incarceration.

But then there are the victims of the paedophile. They deserve justice, and children deserve to be safe.

Maybe MJ was a private and quirky troubled artist who was guilty of poor optics. Maybe he was a serial serial offender, who was enabled BT paid off security, parents etc.

We will never know what MJ did or did not do with those children, but they were failed by multiple adults, regardless. If you let your kid play on a main road you are a terrible parent, whether they get hit by a car or not. Every person that did not intervene, allowed that child to continue playing is as responsible as the parent.

  • I don’t know what the solution to the migration crisis is, but I think history will look back on the Rwanda plan very unfavourably.

While not wishing to conflate genuine refugees with people who are entering the UK illegally, I feel that the hazardous journey people are willing to endure to get here suggests a far worse reality they are leaving. Is it not inhumane to refuse them entry?

On the other hand, the UK does not have finite resources. Our public services have been whittled away for decades. The NHS is on life support, the Police and social services are hopelessly overwhelmed. Schooling is at breaking point.

Eorope has no incentive to do anything but just drum migrants though the Calais border, but they pretty much did that anyway before Brexit.

What is the viable and humane solution?
