You have to be some kind of moron to think it would be a good idea for the president to start dictating prices to grocery chains. Unfortunately Lemmy is largely populated by idiots and delusional fools, so I expect this observation to be unpopular.

I don’t think Lemmy is ready to hear that kind of thing.
I think this can be the case, but I also think intent has to matter. I don’t see any evidence that OP intends to be transphobic.
Here’s the thing; we are trying to treat a figurative heart attack while you are bitching about a figurative cancer.
In medicine we have the concept of triage, wherein we treat the most immediately life-threatening issue first, and then, once the patient is stabilized, we move on to the next treatment.
What you are arguing in favor of is basically treating the cancer while ignoring the full pulmonary arrest that is happening right before your eyes.
What part about this do you not understand?
I don’t get it. I truly don’t.
Nothing about what you ultimately want will happen if you and I do not stand up together right fucking now.
The plane is about to crash into the fucking mountain and you want to bitch about your little fucking objections?
Really? That’s who you are?
Bullshit. They’re simply saying that now probably isn’t the best time for infighting. As Levitsky and Ziblatt show in their book, “How Democracies Die,” a disunited and squabbling opposition is how authoritarian dictatorships come to power.
You can agree or not, but don’t misrepresent the argument.
The mistake here is in assuming that it’s either all or nothing; that self checkouts are either great, or some kind of disaster.
The reality is that they’re great for some applications, but suck ass for others.
Here’s the deal; if it’s just me with a few items, yeah, the self-checkout is awesome, but if it’s me and my wife and we have a shitload of groceries for the entire family, guess what? Self-checkout sucks ass and it’s way easier to go through a regular checkout stand where there won’t be a hundred little different ways for the system to get jammed up and require an employee intervention.
What part about this do people not understand?
I have to think that a lot of the hostility to regular checkout stands comes from relatively young Lemmy users who don’t actually have to shop for families of their own.
And your point is? We can’t change the past, all we can do is try to make a better future. It sounds like you just want to give up because you didn’t get your way in 2020. That’s pretty childish.
I believe the electoral college is blamed for HRC losing. Sure, it wasn’t the only factor, but it’s a pretty big deal that you can win the popular vote and still lose the election.
Most of us rank and file union members think that he did what he had to do because inflation was already out of control and shutting down the railroads risked tipping the country into recession which would’ve guaranteed a “red wave” election in '22 as well as the reelection of Trump, both of which would be far more dire for working people.
Local 10 till I die!
Again, while I don’t necessarily otherwise disagree with you, you are a little confused on whataboutism.
That’s not whataboutism. Whataboutism is changing the subject to derail the conversation. This is simply addressing a different point of view in the same discussion.
You are seriously confused. OP specifically said that you’re fucked if there is no visual cue.
No, it’s true. It is the consensus among historians. This appears to upset a lot of atheists, not sure why. It has no effect whatsoever on my own atheism since whether or not the biblical figure has a historical basis doesn’t play into my lack of belief in god.
A better way to put it is that the consensus is that a historical figure named Jesus, upon whom the biblical figure is based, did in fact exist. The actual details of his life are almost entirely unknown apart from, as you say, a few key events for which we have multiple credible sources. We have a better read on his teachings, but even that’s not entirely clear since a lot of the gospels contradict one another and can be interpreted in many different ways.
That’s a default vote for Trump then.
It’s a problem because people don’t feel like stakeholders when they don’t have a say and can’t participate in their system of governance. This in turn means that they aren’t incentivized to willingly participate and have to be forced or indoctrinated, both of which are violations of human rights.
Me and my stripey boy, Chief Inspector Bean, we were together for nearly 20 years and I will miss him until the day I die.
What makes you think this is his first time? Have you been paying attention at all? Are you somehow oblivious to the thousands of Ukrainian civilians who’ve already been killed by Putin? This selective outrage blows me away. Have you been asleep for the last year and a half? This is the madness of crowds.
The short version is that it was about the transfer of power from hereditary nobility to a different elite consisting of wealthy merchants and “gentlemen” farmers. This transfer was already happening anyway throughout the British Empire, the Americans just wanted to speed it up and codify it.
