didn’t google pixels only recently switch to ultrasonic scanners instead of optical ones? if your fingerprint scanner has to light up with a bright light, it’s usually less good

unless you use your fingerprint or face to unlock it (iphones and many androids have a key combo that quickly locks your phone and disables biometrics until you unlock it again with your pin or password. google it. useful in duress situations, but some manufacturers (in my case xiaomi) remove the feature. it doesn’t prevent the stealing of all available data on your phone in case your attacker happens to own a cellebrite device and takes your phone away for a few hours (almost nothing can prevent that, except grapheneos), but it prevents quick in-the-moment abuse.)

7·9 days agoi have similar thoughts and to me it’s really just about the balance of power. It could just as easily be a billionaire woman and a working man. I think in any kind of relationship (the broad term, not the dating term) each person needs to be accountable to each other. Good outcomes can still happen when somebody is unaccountable, but there is massive risk. And I go by the motto that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If somebody has a lot of power, they will use it for evil. One goal of society should be to make that impossible.

8·11 days agowhat rich people take depends on their location, culture, politics and ideology. if you want to be a right wing american prick, try weed, ayahuasca and ketamine. the specific proportions of each are a carefully guarded family secret of each billionaire family. it’s difficult to get precise measurements without visiting them on their own (or epstein’s) private jet.

News@lemmy.world•US boy, 11, allegedly shoots father to death after Nintendo Switch taken awayEnglish
512·21 days agoi take a long time to properly think through consequences, and as a kid I couldn’t ever dare to try and truly feel what it would be like to shoot somebody. just because you may be different doesn’t mean everyone is. children are specifically known for their lack of foresight and increased impulsivity. one impulse can be enough for someone to go through a minutes-long process. minutes isn’t anywhere near the max that can appear.

1212·22 days agoi don’t think you need to be a violent kid to accidentally shoot someone to death; that’s why guns are so insidious. it only takes a couple of simple actions at most to kill someone. it’s simple enough where people might not think about the consequences before killing somebody. it makes death easily accessible and not a very physical or straining task.
i also would generally refrain from calling an unknown kid who you just don’t know violent, or passing judgement on the father for looking a certain way. stereotypes might turn out true, but they also might not.
