I think we notice them more now. There were people wearing masks before the covid19 pandemic and they continued to wear them.

The change is that the community as a whole is more educated and understanding of people wearing masks. Rarely are people abashed for wearing a mask anymore.

Yeah cheap temu crap is one thing. Localised products from other nations just won’t happen on the individual level and will require a USA company to act as a middle man. In Australian news, we keep hearing about companies that are losing a large chunk of trade because of this. Most are small businesses with niche products; emu leather, kangaroo products, eucalyptus oil, etc. All things that are only made in Australia.

Yeah i have notifications silenced as they are a stupid distraction.

I have a tablet for work that I rarely use so I leave it for the kids to play on. Everytime i look at it there is hundreds of notifications from games they play. How are the kids meant to get anything done if they keep getting interrupted.

We are in talks to build one for a local power utility. These are cheaper for nice-to-have sensors that aren’t critical. Most electricity meters in Victoria use a mesh network provided through silverspring devices to collect usage readings.

I’ve also heard about a rural water utility using a mesh network to connect water meters together to reduce the number of times an onsite reading is required.

Telcos are already trying to compete with mesh networks by providing low bandwidth LTE-M services that are lower cost for utilities. Nokia are pushing 450connect, 450 alliance, etc as more competitors also.

There are plenty of use cases for low bandwidth systems and services. Isolated network is great when the telcos have pages too.

I think the whole planet has a semi for fascism right now. In Australia (my home) there is an uptick in right wing rallies and hate speech. What’s going on in American media is on our screens constantly and people here are feeling more free to say what they want. I don’t blame Americans, I think we’ve all dropped the bomb on having real conversations with people about the ills of authoritarianism
