  • I watched my local college lose all its credibility as a result of running borderline scams for foreign students. My old university otoh has been rather smart about not becoming too dependent on foriegn student tuition. I love immigration, and especially think exporting our education is a good thing, but the way these programs have been run in recent years is a cancer on these institutions and pure short term thinking. I’d rather see reform, but this is almost as good.

  • The monarchy stops things like Jan6th from happening, probably would have limited the whole hanging chads thing as well. They (via the GG) have peacefully resolved the 2008 constitutional crisis as a canadian example. The monarchs power and money is tied to exactly one thing, the current political system continuing, that is their only power and it aligns with their incentives. I don’t like the monarchs, but I like constitutional monarchies and I don’t see a good way of setting up a new head of state that isn’t elected (and thus corruptible). Perhaps a Native leader of some kind.

  • I think one of the bigger problems with amazon is that it replaces so many different sectors all at once. I don’t think any one single replacement is really solving the problem, furthermore I don’t think an internationally relevant replacement for any one sector is that great either.

I guess the most recent amazon temptation was a utility cabinet, I found a nice one on amazon, but then searched and found an equivalent one from Canadian tire.

The hardest thing for me to break is audio books. I use the library but I find it rarely has what I want in stock, I have tried piracy but I can’t find a good tracker for audio books and I like supporting authors when I can. Audible is really cheap compared to every store front, especially when buying credits in bulk.

  • Otoh tho 2 uses of the airfyer is almost certainly worse than a bigger single session with an oven. Personally I find meal prepping to be important way of saving time and energy alike.

also in winter both waste no energy since whatever energy is not used for cooking ends up warming your house.

I dint want to yuck anyone’s yum, but I dont have a lot of use for a tool that only has a benefit half the year when doing small batches.
