  • I think moneyed interests will outcompete progressive will. It doesn’t matter to voters who the chair is if they’re still seeing more ads for Newsom all throughout the primary and electoral seasons. I don’t think the DNC is gonna pull a reverse Hillary and force Newsom out if their base is promoting him in the primaries and I think their base is gonna promote him in the primaries.

    I hope you’re right, I really do. I just don’t think it’s enough.

There’s still an inordinate amount of money in politics, a huge number of people that aren’t paying attention, a continued misunderstanding in how government works, and misattribution to what the President’s authority is enough that many people only vote on leap years. There’s also too many ideological purists that refuse to vote out of misguided fears that it constitutes an endorsement of the system or that it’s ineffective thereby ceding their opportunity to influence to stalwart Dems and waivering centrists.

The right has been working since desegregation to secure their political power and neoliberal ideologies have become a mainstay since the energy crisis. A couple of terrible terms isn’t going to be enough to break the ratchet and usurp decades of established power in one election–even if the chair of one of the parties is different now.

  • I don’t believe minor changes will be enough to shake entrenched power. A huge number of the Dem’s voting base (and the sway votes they’ll need to win) are disengaged and will only check in around October while living the rest of their life tacitly ameliorated to mildly annoyed–the perfect marks for a handsome, put together, well spoken candidate who can claim to have experience running the 4th largest economy in the world.

Newsom’s got baggage, but not Adams or Cuomo level baggage. With moneyed interests behind him it’ll be enough to sway the right people and shove him down our throats.

  • I’m gonna read the article:

Trump scored the highest, with 49 percent saying he was involved versus 28 percent who said he wasn’t — a 21-point spread.

The remaining option was “not sure” which isn’t a definitive statement of involvement either way. That captures people that haven’t been paying attention and those who are trying to reconcile contrary information to their echo chambers, but it’s not people who said he wasn’t involved.

  • She’s doing business internationally and failed to comply with local regulations and courier terms of use for her products’ destination.

There’re agreements that govern how mail transits from Canada to the US and agreements that govern how the US moves mail to military bases in host countries. To facilitate the hundreds of different permutations of local laws USPS provides a portal where you can check if what you intend to mail is permitted.

Bennett had no idea her business’s products were going to a country where they would be illegal.

She should have known. The military member would have given her their address including “APO AE 09837.” She should have then visited the USPS APO restrictions portal and typed in “09837” whereupon she would have seen the following:

E2. Any matter depicting nude or seminude persons, pornographic, or sexual items are prohibited.

At that point she would have known that sending one of her products to that address was illegal in the destination country she was doing business in and a violation of her couriers terms.

She didn’t do that, Bahrain notified the recipient (technically the US Military) and asked them to notify the sender, and they did.

It’s her choice to support APOs, but if she does support APOs she’s doing business all across the world and is subject to the local restrictions. If she just wants to deal with the US and Canada and not have to deal with other countries’ customs than she shouldn’t support APOs.

It’s illegal to mail someone alcohol in the US. It’s also illegal to mail someone alcohol in Bahrain. Regardless of if someone orders alcohol online it’s still illegal to send alcohol. If you disregard that and mail alcohol anyway then you are breaking the law.

Though it’s legal to mail sex toys in the US, it is illegal to mail sex toys to Bahrain–even if to a US military base. Regardless of if someone orders sex toys online it’s still illegal to mail sex toys to Bahrain. If you disregard that and mail sex toys to Bahrain anyway then you are breaking the law.

  • Apparently the US Department of DefenseWar thinks that they can order non-US citizens not resident in the USA to cease and desist from mailing things.

It’s not to stop mailing things. It’s to stop mailing things to them. That should be a basic right. I want nothing more than to be able to tell my grocery store to stop mailing me anything, and I’m sure most employers don’t want their employees having dildos delivered to their work, especially in places where possession of such items is illegal.

If you’re engaged in international business you do actually have to respect the laws of the countries you operate in.

  • If it uses the police algorithm to determine gunness it’ll just refuse to print anything.

If it just stops things that “look” like a gun then printable guns will evolve in shape to conceal their properties making them potentially even more dangerous because people won’t be able to recognize them for what they are.

Where will this logic live? On the main board? What if I swap my main board out for some random SBC with code I wrote myself? On the motor driver? I don’t pass G-Code to the motor driver you really gonna inspect the momentary electric pulses for a series of motors to determine if the result is vaguely gun shaped? What if I print in parts?
