This feels like such a Post-Reddit Migration Lemmy response. You are trying to invalidate what I am saying by calling me part of the problem I am talking about.

I had a Reddit account, but I actually deleted my account in March, prior to the announcement of the API changes. I was then convinced to join Lemmy by a third party on Discord in mid-June, thus my account creation date. The first real wave of Reddit joiners took place shortly after June 30, as this is when the API changes went into effect. One month later in August, the Hexbear instance would be created. Around this time, there was a flood of CSAM posts in every community on the .world instance. To say that the quality of Lemmy as a whole went down when this happened would be a massive understatement.

My account creation was coincidentally two weeks before the Reddit API changes took place, but that does not make what I said invalid just because I used to have a Reddit account.

First of all, I don’t even agree with the premise that Lemmy got worse after the reddit exodus happened. Before that it was like 1-2k monthly users mostly on lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. The reddit migrants built almost all of the biggest and most active servers that exist on lemmy today. I may not have been here beforehand, but I saw the stats and I saw the content that was available when I first arrived, and it was pretty minimal.

Second of all, you are part of the problem, you’re being super negative for no reason right now. The rest of us are excited for more redditors to join Lemmy and you’re acting all elitist when you’re not even part of the original pre-exodus userbase anyway. I just don’t get it, why not just embrace more users, why do you feel the need to act superior to others?

I also joined about the same time. Officially before the Reddit changes. However I very much link myself with all other Reddit refugees. Reddit was and is a cesspool, the API changes were just the last shove.

To say that the influx of Reddit refugees has a negative effect is one thing, but to deny that you are not part of that change is just that, denial.

Taking into account what Lemmy is, it is safe to assume that majority of its audience, including OGs, are Reddit refugees of some sort.
