Hello. The past few months Ive been almost exclusively playing fantasy and survival games, so much so that I need a break from them.

Looking for single player FPS recommendations with controller support from the last decade. A good story is preferred.

Games Ive played:

  1. Warframe (dont ask. The lore is okay-ish. I stayed for friends).
  2. Titanfall 2. (PEAK)
  3. Apex Legends (Briefly. The sweatiness and timed lore turned me off).
  4. Doom 2016 (Dropped this, sadly. Gunplay and parkour was AWESOME, but the whole devil worship thing really turned me off).
  5. Dying Light 1. (Okay Story. Awesome fighting. Never played 2 because of the whole controversy with the story director. EDIT: Story writer, not director)
  6. The Metro Series. 1, 2 and Exodus. (Slightly weak lore. Still alot of fun).

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: regarding Dying Light:

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Currently gonna try:

    The Half-Life series

    • Black Mesa instead of Half-Life. It’s an extremely faithful remake that’s absolute joy and I would play it instead of the original now that it exists. Not only the graphics are updated, but also the last chapter of the original game which got rushed to meet deadlines is masterfully completed in Black Mesa
    • Half-Life 2 and it’s subsequent episodes

Am currently playing Black Mesa after having only completed the original in Sven Co-op. It’s nice!

Half life 2 is so damn good. One of my most replayed games.

And full points to Black Mesa for actually improving the game, not just reskinning it. 10/10

I thoroughly enjoyed black mesa but I don’t think it improved the game. I think it’s a pretty unbalanced experience with a lot of the original atmosphere replaced with pretty textures. I also think the xen levels were extremely unfaithful to the original and devoid of a lot of the original meaning, but again visually stunning.
