    The latter. They think they can still vote their way out of fascism in 2026 and 2028. Until they experience a famine caused by the GOP and oligarchs running the economy into the ground, people are not going to be pissed off enough to do anything of consequence.

      Even if Trump came out tomorrow and say “I am now your dictator. I am going to enslave you all, and if you don’t agree, you’ll go to a deathcamp where you’ll be starved, tortured and worked to death”. Americans would still just be a bit pissy, and half the country would still make excuses for him like “It’s going to make everything much more efficient”. While the other half are whining about not being able to resist, because things could always get worse for them personally.

        (Un)fortunately not enough people across the country have personally experienced severe negative consequences yet. I give it like 6 more months (optimistically) until it gets bad enough for everyone to start mobilizing.
