Donald Trump said the Department of Justice will sue California over Gov. Gavin Newsom’s efforts to draw a new congressional map.
Newsom, a Democrat and 2028 presidential contender, promptly responded on social media: “BRING IT.”
Trump has praised a similar effort by Texas Republican legislators to codify a new map that would give the GOP an even greater advantage in key House seats in the 2026 midterm elections.
Perhaps, but you should also remember that SCOTUS ruled in July that federal courts can not issue nationwide injunctions and that rulings now only apply to the specific parties named in a specific case, meaning that if Dems in California lose their case, that ruling only applies to them and cannot be applied toward Texas unless SCOTUS says so.

A nationwide injunction may not be issued as easily, but the precedence does still matter in a case like this.
Well the rub here is that a new case will need to be filed in Texas’ federal district and their federal district judges always rubber stamp everything the president wants.
