It’s honestly hard not to say we as a species don’t deserve whatever happens from this. This was 100% our own choice and we have no one else to blame.
Think about it as a sci-fi film. If an evil alien civilization breeds humans specifically to subject them to a life of constant suffering and experimentation, and some humans they deliberately infected with deadly diseases escape, would anyone in the audience feel bad for that alien race when those diseased humans infect everyone and wipe them out? It would be the most classic poetic comeuppance trope and the humans would be uncritically hailed as the heroes.
The article says they are NOT infected. It does say “aggressive” but doesn’t seem to expand on that.
Despite reports initially suggesting that the monkeys were carrying infectious diseases - including hepatitis C, herpes and Covid-19 - Tulane University, where they were being housed, denied that was the case.
“The primates…aren’t infectious. We’re actively collaborating with local authorities & will send a team of animal care experts to assist as needed,” the university wrote.
