- Good thing the house is in session and generally functional. >.>
- Kaine, joined by other Democrats and Paul, has forced the votes under a decades-old law that allows Congress to block a president’s emergency powers. However, House Republicans have passed new rules that allow leaders to prevent such resolutions from getting a vote in that chamber, and Trump could veto the legislation even if it did clear Congress. - So basically, nothing is going to change. - You can’t put the fart back into the bottle after popping the cork and inhaling deeply. - Comment goes with the username I see. - There is no other authority I would trust on the matter.

- I’m not going to promise change or anything, but - US is currently in shutdown. On Nov 1st, there will be tangible reactions to specific health insurance premium increases that should have many people with up $1000/month, and some $2000/month quotes. There is a possibility of a reopening deal that would include the tariff overturn vote. Trump may come up with a brand new national emergency declaration to reimpose tariffs. - Supreme court is also reviewing these tariffs soon, and Constitutional Congressional oversight power, backed up by this vote against them, could influence their decision.
- Oh so they can change the rules any time they want? (They’ve always been able to do this). - Ask yourself, why don’t they change the rules to allow them to bypass Dems and open the government? - Something something they want it closed.
- But Bourbon Mitch and the others can say “see we tried” (knowing full well that this doesn’t matter)! - Exactly. Without a veto-proof vote on this, they can play both sides on this one. That said, these four repbulicans are also saying that they care a little more about midterms than toeing the line on this issue.

- Rand Paul, Collins, McConnell, and Murkowski
- I was wondering if the 10% additional tariff due to the political ad would have any affect, since it doesn’t even pass the “emergency drug crisis” test. - The emergency drugs crisis was all made up bullshit anyways, the US is Canada’s problem, drug wise, not the other way around

- Well shit. - I don’t want negotiation with the US to go our way, I want it to go away. Permanently.
- Oh look more proof the US is fucked.
- So those four republicans will need to be watching their back.
