Chinese pirated copies in internet cafe for shady activities: usually Valve fixed this data in the coming days/hours. But I think it’s nice to have a snapshot: a sudden motion of 30% would technically mean a sudden switch of millions of customers (or a bunch bot machines well placed)
The bots would make sense, too, a Chinese cyberattack last year took Steam and other online publishers down for a couple of hours using a compromised router botnet.
I really hope Steam suits don’t see data like this and think they need to cater to the needs of the CCP.
Valve operates a very “flat” hierarchy, with no middle managers.
There’s Gabe and then there’s everyone else.
This doesn’t make Valve proof from unscrupulous kowtowing by any means, but Gabe has historically been moderate. They’ve always followed a policy of following the laws of the countries they operate in, and in that way you could expect them to bow to the CCP, but only in China.
For instance, I don’t see them suddenly banning all images of Winnie the Pooh in the rest of the world just because they make Dear Leader uncomfortable.
Didn’t support for Windows 10 has ended on October 14, 2025? How is it, that W10 grows so much?
