How bout Xi just fuck off and focus on the 1.4 billion people already under his control?

WTF kind of brain worm is possessing all these people to waste so much effort, money, and lives to gain small pieces of land. Absolutely ridiculous state of affairs in 2024. We have enough problems to keep us busy already.

Because Taiwan is a very valuble small peice of land.
Microchip manufacturing facilities there are going to be important in the near future with the worlds increasing dependance on computing power & electronics manufacturing.

If Taiwan was just another pocket of rural china then the CCP wouldnt give anywhere much of a shit… but they still probably wouldnt like it “getting away”.

The CCP was obsessed with conquering the island long before the first fab was built there. They just didn’t have the means to pull it off. They don’t have those now either, but enough yes-men must have told Xi otherwise.

Given America is likely to vote Trump as the next president, and his extensive ties to China, you’ll probably end up selling out the Taiwanese for a lucrative real estate deal for Dear Leader.

Could someone please explain the difference between “(re)unification” and “illegal annection” to the Chinese?

It’s colonial language. Basically “reunification” translates into “expanding the central kingdom” - because the CPC wants to expand the central kingdom, i.e China.
