Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do movies always get wrong about your job/hobby?
27·8 months agothere’s a scene in “Silo” where a character needs to repair a massive steam-powered turbine that is off-balance, scraping at the housing, and heading towards collapse. all fine and we’ll, it’s sci-fi, so whatever, they can make magic quick fixes to move the plot along.
what really bugged me, for some reason, is how characters started touching the internal components immediately after it powers down - I have to wait for significantly smaller motors to cool off before handling them, especially if they’re rotating poorly with a bad bearing, and burning from friction.

a small number of wealthy Americans riled up a large number of poor Americans, using single-issue voter tactics that prey on irrational fears, and gained control of more wealth and decision-making power than they know what to do with.
I can’t fathom what the point is, other than some doomsday scheme, where they plot to outlive us poors with hoarded resources, and the remaining bootlicker class as slaves.

ah, right-o. carry on, then.
Yamaha makes nice basses, no doubt about that. I’d love to own a vintage BB series bass someday.
I bought a different brand of massager, for massaging, and it works really well for loosening tight muscles and easing pain. Highly recommend getting one.
It did come with some attachments that seem tailored to groin muscles, but those can live in the junk drawer.
And yes, everyone who sees it in my house makes a joke about using it to whack-off, but I have no problem with that.

those bridges flipping upside down and the shapeshifting staircases were some next level platforming action back in the day! and that is also the song I go to most when going for sonic soundtracks. I jammed with a band for a while that played it, and also mystic cave zone.

Understandably, if you work in R&D and need some job security, making bluetooth work in a microwave may keep your department afloat for a little while.
