They embedded a PS1 in the PS2, but the PS1 compatibility for the PS3 and later is emulation. Also the PS2 compatibility for most of the revisions of the PS3 is emulated too. Only a couple of the earliest models crammed a PS2 in there

4·15 days agoThe 4.1m was the budget for the front-end. The back-end changes were initially budgeted as 31m but tripled in cost as the project dragged on and contracts needed to be extended.

5·15 days agoMore likely mismanagement, miscommunication, rewrites, and incompetence than corruption.
All projects of sufficient complexity overrun their cost/time estimates. That’s not even accounting for designers and programmers trying to hit what is likely a moving target.

0·15 days agoGot it. That’s pretty odd then. The client should use hardware decoding by default. You could try watching from your web browser indtead and see if that helps, I guess.

45·21 days agoThey aren’t right wing, at the global level.
This story is a follow-up to reports that the “Gen-Z” rebellion in Mexico in particular seems to mostly consist of older people, like Gen X and Boomers.
So, it’s an astroturf movement by the right.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Handled a ThinkPad today. What distro should I go with? Ubuntu? Arch?
2·26 days agoIf you don’t upgrade the RAM, go with Linux Mint with the MATE desktop. If you do upgrade to 8GB RAM, probably LMDE? You don’t need to be on a bleeding edge kernel with a Windows 8 era laptop, modern optimizations will not affect perf much.

1·26 days agoBigger than ever in post industrial society, maybe. Pre-industrial times almost everyone shared almost everything. The ones who didn’t share were rich, and even they often would invite guests to stay for a whole season semi-regularly because of their ridiculously big houses and desire for entertainment.

… as long as the giant corpos paying through the nose for the data centers continue to vastly underprice their products in order to make us all dependent on them.
Just wait till everyone’s using it and the prices will skyrocket.
