You could say you’ve never hurd of someone using it
How does it taste? Is it very different to a chicken egg?

2·10 months agoWhile reducing his sources of income will hurt him a little bit, unfortunately Starlink is very appealing to militaries and emergency services. Being able to access the internet is great for morale in the navy, and mission critical for plenty of emergency services. This is particularly true in Australia where we have vast unpopulated areas with very patchy phone coverage, let alone bandwidth for data services. I know some services are installing starlink as emergency backups for stations and in forward command vehicles. They’ll be paying the big bucks for Starlink.
Orecchiette. It’s a very small cup (the name means little ear) which holds a little bit of sauce, but not so much that you get overzealous and try to fill it up.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Maybe we should have this conversation in person so it can be a fist fight.
1·11 months agoMmmm yeah, I currently work in a cafe, so I get the benefits of climate control with the benefits of basically only dealing with people face to face. If it was a better paid job I’d probably just stay in it.

20·11 months agoThat’s the thing: if you or I got 10mil we’d live it up and not worry about accumulating more wealth. Beyond that it’s just collecting for collecting’s sake. Clearly, when you’re the richest man on earth, the only way to collect more (of anything) is to collect power by buying the president.

4·1 year agoSounds about right. I’d seen “slot machines” (we call em poker machines or “the pokies”) more times than I can remember before I was 18.
I heard an idea once about making minimum wage 0$ and giving everyone a liveabke UBI. That would mean that nobody is required to participate in the workforce, meaning that employers who can’t afford to pay their workers a good wage would be priced out of the market rather than being able to prey upon peoples need for, y’know, money (which can be exchanged for goods and services). A very appealing idea for a 16 year old boy, and the only issue I see with it now is extreme specialisation in the workforce leading to less competition between different workplaces for similar jobs.
Don’t worry, you’ll just import volunteers from Australia at great expense when you do have massive fires
Many naval vessels have been sunk by their own crew rather than be captured by the enemy. It’s called scuttling.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should "Bad People" deserve a respectful burial?
19·1 year agoOur rituals around death are really for the living. We should respect the wishes of the family of the deceased because it’s important to make the (already difficult) grieving rituals as meaningful and painless as possible, not because of the moral qualities of the deceased.
Can we not celebrate the people who have made sacrifices for their country and for ideals like freedom, and support those people because they have inadequate support from the government who ordered their sacrifices, while also decrying the actions and behaviours which we see as morally wrong?

2·1 year agoReally we should be asking (I want to know) why FEMA invented their own USAR standards instead of adopting the INSARAG ones? Why the US have put so much more money into USAR and not flood and storm response? Surely after Harvey and Katrina, not to mention tornadoes, you’ve learned that having something like Australia’s SESs would provide you with surge capacity of people skilled in storm damage mitigation and flood rescue? I really would like to know
