Why would I opt for this over docker-compose while risking vendor lock-in on a non stanard tool?
Fellow Aussie here - you can get an Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo for less than that. Excellent printer - I’ve had mine a few months and already have ~600 hours on it.

I haven’t, I run a Windows desktop, Linux desktop, Windows laptop, and Linux laptop (was a Mac OS laptop but Apple EoL’d it, so I am looking at a Mac Mini M4 Ultra or M5 if they release one next year). I am OS agnostic though.

Anycubic offers them as an add-on for their printers for under ~120€ when purchased with the printer. That’s a reasonable price. But buying them on their own the ~200€ price is a bit much
I started with FreeBSD, Fedora, and Debian, and was comfortable on all three. I’ve run OpenSolaris and NetBSD in the past too. I experimented with Nix OS recently but decided it wasn’t my style. I currently have machines with Manjaro and various Ubuntu distros, Windows and Mac OS.
