In very early 2000s my friends and I used to comment on water appearance in games. If I saw Black Flag ocean then I’d have probably shit myself. Really water was a benchmark between us still recall it on the amd 9500

I basically only use Youtube to watch let’s plays (video games) never dipped my toe into other media site to see how it tries to show that stuff. Then if I need something new to watch I’ll find newer games I may be interested in and search accordingly or watch older videos of people that I enjoyed.
I’m sure that keeps me in the bubble of entertainment vs political stuff but really I’ve rarely seen that stuff pop up. I’d probably stop all together if I only saw some of the crap I’ve heard of people’s experiences.
New can be interesting but rather just prefer a good player explaining why they’re playing like they do. Some strategy games (paradox) can be quite complicated to understand the finer points. Makes life better not hearing/watching dumbasses.

News@lemmy.world•White House circulating blatantly illegal draft emergency order to take control of elections
2·2 days agoThanks for the link, I knew I read it somewhere. Like I think if everyone knew and understood what that meant things could change. Unfortunately these days that’s as likely as me hitting a home run it seems. Not that it’d take much to explain if the media wanted to…we all know why they don’t, anyone that can own big media is a billionaire and loves the outcome.
How anyone can follow Bannon, a dude who looks like he’s stewing in his own juices, is beyond me. I’d even say half the people following him could overtake him without much issue but for some reason they just want to be a sheep even if they’re ‘alpha’. It’s like if Urkel (showing my age but yes Family Matters show) was an evil genius and hoodwinked others.

News@lemmy.world•White House circulating blatantly illegal draft emergency order to take control of elections
2·2 days agoDoesn’t Bannon do a lot of work in Europe and Italy specifically? Well lobbying and such and apparently trying to create a force of people. Sure he has his project 2025 orders to focus on from those higher ups.

News@lemmy.world•Trump Reportedly Mulling Plan to Declare ‘National Emergency’ Paving Way for Major Power Grab
9·3 days agoYeah the guy who cheats against kids in golf is not playing a clean game in a national election. Mean the dude lies like a sidewalk and aome people wonder why he doesn’t do what he promised. Cause he’s a fucking con man, grifter. He’s the guy they’d tar and feather back in the day if he stuck around long enough.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada plans to assist Cuba as Washington squeezes the island
4·4 days agoI agree but when the bully that gets away with everything makes a demand they should not be appeased. Personally I’d never want to do what they asked even just out of spite, but if taking a country into consideration then I see why concessions are made. It can only last so long though.

3·14 days agoMean there are more poor people so…sort of?
Yes I know the social equallibriam of it all, but only the people can change it too. Never thought I’d see the US fall so quickly in my lifetime and hopefully people will realize that.
I’m also Canadian so can’t do much else but post about it.

News@lemmy.world•Trump threatens to bypass Congress and order new voting laws ahead of midterms
5·15 days agoImagine getting as far as Trump has and not understanding anything just buying your way through life. Then even if he breaks all the laws he still doesn’t get any legal punishment beyond paying more but he has tons of money. He’s literally looting the US Treasury right now.

News@lemmy.world•Trump deportation surge left Texas with shortage of home builders. Now Republican wants completely new visa to fix that
1·15 days agoFew stories I’ve read lately is their ideas are much larger than warehouses, like a 100k person prison, billions of dollars. How this isn’t causing total shutdown of the US by general strike is horrifying as a neighbor. I can’t imagine how they think they’re in a democracy, though I’m sure many of them probably understand that which is even scarier. I bet those ones will be surprised when they’re on a list for some reason too, there always needs to be enemies afterall.

26·16 days agoSo apparently ICE doesn’t accept given official id anyways, why is anyone going to want to come on a hope they don’t end up in a concentration camp? Yeah I’m not betting on those odds.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Awful people are using the Tumbler Ridge shooting for their own hateful political agendas. Don't let them.
21·16 days agoAgreed, but unfortunately people who do that are well known for flooding the zone, then this gets more people on their side, even if they didn’t have any good points to make. Just a few feels and some less than cricital thinking will win people over.
Been awhile since I was in school I do hope they’re stil teaching kids how to think on their own these days. Though unsure if I picked that up on my own and has my own opinions to not exclude random people who cause no harm or was actually taught it. Heck if anything it’d have been sesame street abd Mr Rogers teaching me that, those radicals teaching to not be bigoted.
Mean I also definitely support mental health for all, I know I’ve had to visit a few times myself and think everyone should have the opportunity if needed.
Used to live near there for awhile, couple hours away unsure if we ever went there, think my town was smaller, wikipedia tells me it is currently a similar size so guess not by much if at all (like a few hundred people different sort of thing)

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•In Pulp Fiction Vincent made a big deal about a $5 milkshake, which is less than a crappy one from a fast food joint costs today.
2·17 days agoBeing Canadian I was so wondering at prices in the states (from tv, movies) during the early 90s. You’d see a greasy spoon diner have breakfast for like $3.50 in them, usually closer to $6-7 up here for the same (noticbly more after exchange rate). The crappy fast food milkshakes were like $4 minimum let alone a theme restraunt with Steve Buscemi as a waiter.
Though I do often use the inflation calculation when I see a price from the 90s and earlier these days just to make sure I got the right perspective on cost.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•TV remotes should have an easy-to-find (by touch) "volume toggle" button that toggles between two volume settings.
4·19 days agoI’ve had that thought for decades, like they do (or used to) do a button to switch between the last channel. So you’d go to each channel and flip at a commercial. Then forget to switch back so you saw two half episodes but that’s not really an issue with a volume setting.

News@lemmy.world•NSA detected phone call between foreign intelligence and a person close to Trump
4·22 days agoMean this term is worse but if that was possible it would have happened before the end of the first one I assume, the world watched Trump looking like he was Putin’s dog at … Well whatever conference that was. Assume it was a bad employee review. Now this administration has axed everyone that has so much as a raised eyebrow to their actions and doesn’t want to gargle that baby carrot.
In the end I don’t think there’s any saving except by the American citizens in some action. Least before it gets much worse on a world stage. Beyond alienating allies and doing his tariff quick attack which seems to be the standard ‘attack other countries that include nato when they don’t say yes’.
Kind of like an abuser would do huh…and Trump has only been named 38k times in the released Epstein files from pages that aren’t completely blacked out? I’m sure it’s just a coincidence…the sound of your tub draining is the same one American democracy is doing as it’s sucked into his bank account.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I had emergency surgery and as a result it looks like I will be zonked out on oxys for the next week. Never had these, what are some good movies to watch in this condition?
5·24 days agoI won’t say it’s always my thing but sometimes a plain action movie with few cheesy lines is all you’re looking for. Definitely saw enough Chuck Norris in the 80s to confirm that.

3·24 days agoSeems odd they’d both end up in the same crappy movie together in that year. May not be remembering movie years well but Urban was least in Star Trek and Bettany in Marvel even if only as a voice but assume the plan was to make him Vision from the start.
Was it entertaining at least? It sounds like it could be a fun watch, in theory…like the synopsis of Red Letter Media’s Best of the Worst movies probably do.

Games@lemmy.world•Games that have now or will be turned 40, 30, 20 and 10 years old as of 2026English
3·26 days agoTalk about feeling old I played almost all the games until 2006, but fewer of the list after and hardly from the 2016 one. Not trying to one up but figured good place to comment.
It’s been a fun time seeing progression over the years, haven’t stopped playing since my first Gemini (Atari 2600 knockoff that played the same games) system. Going from 2d squares to a proper video representation has been awesome. I always enjoyed the graphic improvements the gameplay has had its ups and downs but the remembered ones did that part right.

It may be worth it if you had a chance to say ‘how tiny’ as you clasped his hand. Though representing the NHL not like they could do that, or most people in his insulated environment.
