The Gaza government media office on Friday condemned the discovery of oxycodone pills reportedly discovered in flour bags distributed by “American-Israeli” aid centres.

“We have so far documented four testimonies from citizens who found these pills inside the flour bags,” it said in a statement, warning of the “possibility that some of these narcotic substances were deliberately ground or dissolved in the flour itself”.

Oxycodone is an opioid meant to treat severe and long-term pain, often prescribed to cancer patients.

The drug is highly addictive and can have life-threatening effects, including breathing complications and hallucinations.

The media office’s statement comes after several social media posts shared images of pills purportedly discovered in flour bags in Gaza.

    FFS…

60yrs ago, I was proud and counted myself lucky to be both an American and a Texan… Now, I’m just embarrassed to be either one of these.

How far both have fallen. I’m just devastated, chastened, sorry, and personally hurt I’ve lived long enough to witness the complete demise of both entities.

Texas has always been America’s skid marked undies tho. Always. Ever since Americans moved there to specifically steal it from Mexico. This is why Republicans call Mexican immigrants “invaders”, because they’re worried Mexico is doing the same thing we did to them.

I mean, current Europeans descend from steppe herders who conquered the previous farming population

Even if you’re a European in Europe your ancestors were a band of marauding nomads

Yes, so because some people replaced other people doesn’t mean you can’t have pride in where you’re from. That’s maybe the most ridiculous reason to hate Texans

Also true, but that’s not the subject atm. Both can be true. The subject here is that Texas, and by extension, it’s history, and Texas pride is bullshit, as are most of its people. Born into trash, continued trash, and proud of their trash existence. Fuck Texas.

People can’t help where they’re born, or genetic qualities, even if they’re designer babies, because that’s what their parents chose. Be proud of accomplishments you effected not off the backs of those who legitimately didn’t have a choice.

But Californians should be proud to be Californians despite circumstances of the handover of California being largely similar?

Name a country that didn’t displace the original population to exist

Certainly not in the Americas, the Europeans colonized the shit out of it. Not even the UK where the English actively replaced the Irish in Northern Ireland.

Not France, the Romans pushed out the Gauls and colonized it and forced everyone to speak Latin.

Not even Lithuania, where the steppe nomads conquered the neolithic European farmers and took their women as wives

Not even Ukraine, where the early homo sapiens displaced the Neanderthals with only a small amount of mixing

What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim.

To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy—a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages.

There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.

      -Frederick Douglas

We’ve never really been great, unless you were White and Male. But we have been good at selling the grift.

Good on you for seeing past the lie.

I’d argue that a nation which has slowly and tediously addressed those things is great.

I know this is Lemmy, and you can also only say good things about China and Russia, so don’t feel obligated to find any good in the US.

Stop simping for Daddy Donald and fascism, he ain’t gonna let you suck his toes.

America has never addressed those issues and we’ve still regressed so much since Reagan was in office. Fuck the US and fuck the Flavor-Aid about “American Exceptionalism” they pour down our throats from the moment we first enter a school. I found the pledge of undying loyalty weird when I was in elementary school, and I don’t like it any more 30 years later with all the other things I now know they lied about or swept under the rug.

America has never been great and I have never been proud to be from this country.

Critical support is okay, but if we dismiss our wrongs to the point progress stalls and reverses because of complacency, that’s something that needs addressing, along with failure to be disabused of cherished illusions and delusions.

Goodness no, I hate the Russian and Chinese government. They can all go take a long walk off a short pier.

And the fact that we can address these things, and occasionally change them (unlike China and Russia), is I suppose a bit encouraging.

But that’s small encouragement next to the mass slavery, targeted attacks, and disenfranchisement throughout our history, and so much of it by regular everyday citizens cheerfully doing terrible things to other regular everyday citizens, no (or very little) government involvement required.

And it’s still going today. The majority of people in this country refused to vote, or voted for a felon who ran on a program of destroying the constitution, over a PoC woman. Because they liked Trump’s message more, or, even more damning, figured that since they probably wouldn’t be impacted, it didn’t matter.
