Another reason to not like the militarization of law enforcement. There were no pictures of guardsmen. Does that mean only federal agents were there and nobody realized? The line between the military and law enforcement is no longer a blur, it’s a fucking mosaic.

Unless you’re a clinate portestor in France, then you’re a terrorist and treated as such. Farmer protestors are a.protected species world wide. eg the UK

      https://www.monbiot.com/2024/02/29/outrage-farming/

Sunak leads a government that has introduced the most draconian anti-protest laws in our democratic history. These laws are deployed exclusively against official enemies: environmental campaigners, republicans, feminists, Muslims. If you belong to one of these groups and you block a road, you might go to prison. If you are a farmer and you block a road, the prime minister might join you.

Eventually. The budget approval and equipment ramp-up will have a lag of months at minimum. Now is the time to rent all the white vans and hide them in an abandoned factory so they have nothing to drive but George’s mom’s Chevy Nova.

They didn’t at the beginning. They had a half assed army barely supplied, a navy with no ships and an Airforce that was basically grounded. Using equipment from the 1970’ and 80’s. Look it up. Their military was at best backwater until the Russians invaded Crimea. Quit making excuses.

I’m aware. What little Ukraine had to start with is more than any collective group of counter protesters in the USA have access to right now. They also had sovereignty that world powers could throw weight behind. What world power is going to sponsor US citizens to fight their own government?

These aren’t excuses, this is reality.

You won’t get support until you organise and resist. It’s pretty simple. Ukraine didn’t have a backer either. People had their kids and Baba’s filling glass bottles with styrofoam.

You’ll never gain my support again, ever. Allowing threats of annexation of Canada and silence from all of 'murica on that subject. Instigation of economic warfare on us was just another strike. Now it’s the complicity of the American people to complete fascism and arguments against doing anything to stand up for yourselves and your neighbors.

I’ll meet you at the border though when they press you into service for the water wars. No matter how prepared I am.

The National Guard left shortly after 1 p.m., once protesters approached with their hands raised in the air.

So, you treat the National Guard the same as a black bear? Just make yourself appear larger and they will leave.

Wow, I don’t know why they keep saying “we’re unarmed”… people start open carrying at these protests. You want them to back off and leave? You want to not get shot with rubber bullets? These SS members are doing that shit because they know there won’t be any force returned to them. If this crowd showed up armed, they would have left a long time ago.

True but I’m talking about protests where it’s legal. I don’t know if this is considered rural though since it’s a farming area. Which is exempt from the open carry ban.

For that to work, you need enough firepower to actually win. Anything short, and it will be a bloodbath, on your side.

By approaching while very obviously not being a threat, it jamms their training, and forces them to think. Once they are thinking, they likely REALLY don’t want to be the ones to start shooting at American protesters.

Americans don’t think lmfao especially the police. Did you know that it is legal to discriminate against applicants to the police if they are too smart? There’s whole court cases about this. Apparently, the argument is that people who are smarter will be less obedient when given an order because they might just employ some critical thinking skills instead of blindly following directions.

Police don’t want thinkers. They might be “bored” or “dissatisfied” when they figure out they’re nothing but bullies to keep the citizens in line.

So no, if you see a cop in riot gear at a protest, do not expect a thinking, feeling, or compassionate human being. A cop in riot gear is a goon through and through, and a trusted goon at that. Goons only understand force, and if you show them more force than they’re prepared to handle, their core programming as self serving cowards will come to the surface. Self serving cowards are people who can be salvaged. Goons are not.

They are goons, but programmed goons. If you play to the programming then you will get their desired response. By forcing them outside their programming, they have to improvise.

The smarter ones realise shooting first is a bad idea, politically. The stupider ones just want out, and notice the smarter ones seem similarly inclined.

Staying within the programming is a lose-lose situation for the protestors. You need to get outside the patterns to get new results.

It’s also worth noting that this is a very American thing, not a universal one. Your police are very broken, and in desperate need of an overhaul.

No. I keep hearing this line of rhetoric and it’s stupid.

        It’s what Magats want.

The national guardsmen? Military in general? Yeah they’re some fucked up folk in there who get off on killing. But the majority just want to do whatever the fuck they’ve been trained to do, and shooting unarmed Americans isn’t that.

Kent State was a long ass time ago, and nowadays one round from a protestor would create a massacre.

CIVIL disobedience. You can’t give them an excuse to escalate. They do dumb shit, they look terrible on t.v., but the moment a protestor crosses that line, it’ll be plastered everywhere and used as an excuse for escalation.
