When the poles of your political axis are “human rights” <—> “genocide and slavery” then centrists can go stuff themselves. Theres no compromise between freedom and slavery, life and death. I will not meet you on the middle fields of “just against the bad ones.”

Americans wish they had it that good. The poles of their axis are “runaway capitalism <————> genocide and slavery”.

“Centrist” dems are right wing politicians. Progressives and Dem Socialists are actual left wing. Republicans are Fascists. So I guess, SUPER-right wing? The Democratic Party needs to realize that unless we get another FDR like NOW, there is going to be a lot of blood on their hands.

Its sorta drives me nuts these terms. I consider myself a centerist because of where the center actually should be. In terms of I want social safety nets and progressive taxes and sensible regulation. I feel centerist is used to mean right leaning folks which is so not center.

Centrism is the real conservatism as far as I’m concerned. The right is regressive, and they’re showing it in all its toxic spew.

Conservatives have been fighting to push the Overton window to the right for a long time.

Same. I feel like I’m conservative, but where politics is right now I’m pretty sure I’m considered liberal.

You might be small c conservative, but there’s no time period where you’d be capital C Conservative; those guys have always been defending and furthering at least one abhorrent system or institution. Monarchy, slavery, segregation, neoliberalism, you name it.

Naw I maybe did not word it right. Im like halfway between where the center should be and far left but from the position im more inclined toward the center. So to me im a centerist liberal but what is called a centerist liberal is a right leaning politician which are mostly democrats now that the republicans have gone beyond extreme right since the base is made up of ideas that would get someone committed in the past and their core principles of old are considered fringe left (you know actually caring about deficits and rule of law and such). Republican reps from the 70’s and even 80’s and heck into the 90’s would be parias in their party now and fit in with the dems. Most dem politicians are right of me except like bernie and yang and such. Federman talked before his brain damage like something that would fit with me. Its funny even when talking extremes because liberal extremes are still based in left idiology so you can’t even compare to the right extreme now which again is just crazyness with no real connection to the historical ideology. Add to this that the republican party is so far that way that at best they are super right extreme moving from there to the batshit stuff we have now.

I have this interesting experience where I was at a catholic college for two years and then a state school. I certainly seemed liberal at the catholic institution compared to my schoolmates and center at the state school although sometimes I feel like I might even be a sliver to the right for the place and times. Im not really center overall and am left of center if things were normal but by maga standards much like everyone a sliver left or more I would be a wako commie super leftist.

    No shit…

They have been since Jimmy Carter

And the Dem voting base’s fear that Jimmy was just the start of the party moving right, is obvious now that people genuinely believe he was “the last good one” instead of “the first shitty one”

That’s how much the Overton window moved in 50 years. Back in 1976 Carter proudly labeled himself a “centrist” even when the right at the time was Nixon right after Watergate. So I don’t want to hear any bullshit about how the right was better back then.

Politicians lie. People seeking positions of power and influence should be treated with heavy skepticism and scrutiny. Whether they are ideologues or charlatans, their motivations should be measured against their actions. Some ideologues may hide their extremism to gain power. Some charlatans may hide their indifference to gain power. But anyone who’s actions don’t match their promises shouldn’t earn your vote, regardless of whether they wear your colors or not.

Agreed. There is a gray area. But we’re so far away from that area that there can’t be any “centrist” possible.

If they’re making any play whatsoever for my media feed, I’m not seeing it.
