[green looks at orange arresting trans people] First they came for trans people And I was like “hey didn’t this happen before?”

[green confused about orange people arresting red people] Then they came for the communists And I said nothing because they think Joe Rogan is a communist wtf

[green amused at colored pople bickering] Then they came for minorities And I’m like lmao some minorities are in the crowd they’ll be so mad when it’s their turn

[green claps at orange arresting some orange gamers] Then they came for the gamers And I clapped because finally

[green takes notes and looks shocked as orange cheers on oranges pointing to jewish symbols] Then they came for conspiracy folks And I said nothing because I was curious to see who they’d blame it on

[green is in a car, honks at orange arresting another green in the middle of a protest] Then they came for the protestors And it’s the protestors’ fault because they made me wait in traffic

[green winks as they show a watermelon on their phone, while a praying pink gets bombed by an orange plane] Then they came for the Palestinians And I said nothing because I already had a watermelon emoji on my profile what more could I do

[green turns their back on ornage as they arrest a green scientist] Then they came for the scientists And I said nothing because I already do my own research

[green walks, alone, gloomy] Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me

[orange points a gun at green] Awkward… Who could have seen this coming?

Last panel: then some jackass made a stupid web comic implying that this is my fault and there was something I could have done to stand up against forces that have more resources than I could ever imagine.

The two genders: total passivity and revolutionary insurgency.

There is notoriously nothing in between. Must choose one of the two options.

Well please enlighten me about this third option I so carelessly left overlooked.

I’ll take a guess first, is it voting for the opposition party the billionaires run to make it seem like the US has free elections?

The third option is apparently pretending there are only two options that way you don’t have to feel bad about it, I guess?

There’s so many things other than voting to do between being idle and storming the palace, here’s a few simple ideas that don’t take much effort and don’t require you to invest your life into activism, they’re a bunch of examples not an exhaustive list or a checklist:

          • Join or support an union
          • Show up at local protests if you can
          • Take part in boycotting a few things that belong to people or countries or orgs that are doing bad shit
          • Speak up, everyday pushback against reactionary speech by coworkers/family/etc. matters
          • Join local activist groups through social media to check once in a while what they need and see if you can lend a hand
          • Most importantly, don’t sneer at people who are trying to do something: cynicism pulls people down, it is a net negative

Martin Niemöller wrote First They Came… as a cautionary tale. If you choose to ignore it and come up with excuses for being a doomer, then you might end up decades from now being the one who writes your own version of First They Came…

The very minimum contribution you could do would be to not try to spread that mood to others. It’d be a nice start.

Well, okay, but other than those options, what else can I do except stay passive and do nothing but whine??? \s

Cool, cool, I remember saying shit like that in my 20s when I thought we’d end inequality by occupying wall street. I guess ~20 years of watching the billionaires dismantle the country for their benefit has indeed turned me into a “doomer”. Good luck with your boycotts and local activists groups though, a couple more people holding signs is all we need to combat the billions of dollars working against us.

Currently, I’m donating monthly to the ACLU, who as I understand successfully got Rumeysa Ozturk released, and I’m using my video editing skills to help a pro-Democratic advocacy group mostly run by older folks, who appreciate my technical know-how. Groups like those have helped to flip districts that were heavily in the red pre-November.

It’s not heavy artillery. It’s something, and largely that’s okay.

Good for you. I’m glad you found something that makes you feel like you have agency. I have no problem with people fighting the billionaires I only have a problem with self righteous assholes like the web comic author who suggest that people who are powerless to fight back are part of the problem because they don’t or can’t. It’s like the same kind of corporate gaslighting that says the working class is destroying the planet by not taking recycling to non existent facilities or driving their cars when there is absolutely no kind of public infrastructure. Assigning blame to the working class is propaganda that keeps the status quo.
