Was this the Union’s grave mistake that they allowed them to continue to live here? To enjoy the freedoms we hold dear and to share our nation with them despite their abhorrent beliefs? They will not allow us the same fate if they find themselves in a similar position.

It increasingly seems to me that, ironically enough, the only way for tolerance to exist is for it not to allow intolerance to continue to exist.
That’s the Paradox of Tolerance.
Tolerance is not a moral choice but a social contract.
