Two-thirds of Americans say that the country is “pretty seriously off on the wrong track,” while just under a third say the country is moving in the right direction, according to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel.
Overall, Americans seem unhappy and anxious, with a slim majority saying the economy has gotten worse since President Donald Trump took office and majorities saying that both major parties and the president are out of touch. A majority of Americans are also growing increasingly concerned over the government shutdown.
If the last 10 years have proven anything, it’s that Americans are REEEEEEAAAAALLY fucking stupid.
Whether the majority of America disapproves of this fascist or not, it’s a nation of dimwits and we’re going to keep voting against ourselves. It’s why we’re here to begin with. Trump didn’t make any of this happen. He’s a fucking idiot. We did it to ourselves, because too many of us are beyond stupid.
Sorry for being a downer, but I expect this ship to keep sinking for the remainder of my life. I’ve seen too much stupid to believe otherwise.
Personally I think Americans aren’t dumb as much as they’re addicted to rage. Since Nixon, rage has been the greatest commodity a presidential candidate can have.
At this point I think we were right to say Trump winning 2024 was an existential threat, for 1/3 of us at least. The other 1/3 was right to say Biden was an existential threat to them. At this point I’m not sure we can have a country when 1/3 of us are convinced that the existence of the other 1/3 is an existential threat.
Like we’ve lost losers consent. We can’t run a country when losers won’t accept the loss, and frankly I think it’s legitimate to take that stance.
70% literacy rate or so. But I also quit giving a shit, America is done.
I’ve stopped caring, since the planet is boiling anyway.
America has Dorian Grey’d itself, and now the painting is dumping all the trauma back. The world isn’t far behind.
Gotta get past that whole “Two-thirds” because it’s that one-third that voted for him and elected him to office.
But will they vote or just shrug it off as politics as usual
Most Americans say country is on the wrong track, blame Trump for inflation, disapprove of the president and say he is going too far to expand power of presidency
Democrats: “Oh shit, this is actually working, quick, find 8 fall guys to let the budget pass!”
(yes, that is really happening- 8 democrats have broken with the party and said they would be willing to vote for it.)
I don’t see any news to corroborate that claim. Link?
Sure. First one that came up for me was https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5584077-democrats-snap-funding-shutdown-concerns/ I can’t find the original article the person linked when I saw it, the politics channel of that discord is… uh, lets go with ‘busy’ lol
Thank you!
Sounds like the centrists are starting to lose their nerve once their constituents start suffering. That is one of my theories of how the shut down ends.
If only there was another option of someone else to vote for last election. Oh well…
/s
And just like that…nothing changed.
Yeah, turns out polls are aren’t magical incantations that instantaneously change things.
Oh Democrats definitively are out of touch, but to compare that to how the
RepublicRepublicans are out of touch is slightly disingenuousMost Americans won’t do shit about it. They’ll roll on their back and expose their belly. Nothing will change and America will fall.
At the same time, even more Americans say the Democratic Party is “out of touch with the concerns of most people in the United States today” (68%) than Trump (63%) and the Republican Party (61%).
Hope people are noticing this tidbit. People don’t like Trump but they don’t like what they perceive to be the Democratic party more. If you dig into that, it’s extreme positions on things, not how corporate we are. In fact, one of the takeaways is that we should bash billionaires less in public because the average voter considers them to be successful and good for the economy.
We gotta change gears entirely, what we’ve been doing the past 10, 20 years has been disconnecting us from voters.
‘Dems are more disconnected than the Nazis’
Jesus fucking christ.
Well, what are you guys gonna do about it?
I’m mad as heck and oh look new Netflix series!
A new Netflix series powered by AI you say??
There was the never-ending Seinfeld episode…
Typical
What’s it about?
I was watching
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2070791/
" a group of revolutionaries seek to drive out a tyrannical militia that’s taken over the former United States of America."
as if
Huh, netflix doesn’t offer that in it’s American region.
It’s a bit obscure I guess, I found it on DVD while thrifting, I never heard of it before. I enjoy these types of shows. Another series that’s in the vein of the fall of our infrastructure is Jericho. Recommend.
It’s about a quirky and woke person standing up against a thinly veiled metaphor for oppressive society, overthrowing their wealth and power but doing so in a loving and peaceful way, then acquiring the same wealth and power, but like in a good way because they’re the good one.
I dunno why but it’s just really hitting the spot rn
We need to start impeaching and recalling every damn politician up the chain until we have people who will fucking do something.
I think we maybe need some strikes or something. Shut off the treat faucets for a couple days.
If democrats weren’t so against our right to bear arms, more people would vote for them. I know so many people that won’t vote for them for that reason alone.
The down votes only show ignorance to the issue. I’m not affected if we can’t buy guns, I’m pointing out hard observations.
Democrats are agasint the 2nd Ammendment? That’s a new one.
Democrats wanting to work within the 2nd Ammandment to regulate a “well regulated militia” is another story.
The framing of Democrats being against the 2nd Ammendment is right wing (and the now defunct Russian fund pipeline: NRA) fear mongering.
Tell that to all the gun nuts. That’s the first thing they bring up and there’s no reasoning with them.
I’d disagree with you arguing it’s not that big of an issue but I remember in the 2020 primaries when Beto O’Rourke said “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47”
-That shit resonates with the opposition and it’s not something easily forgotten by people who care about guns’ rights.
I had two people mention guns being the reason they won’t vote Democrat today since the vote is tomorrow. They all believe if democrats win, they will take away their right to buy semi automatic guns.
We have been on the wrong track for decades. Luckily Trump lit that wrong track on fire and strapped us in while accelerating towards a pit of despair
We have been on the wrong track for decades
What does this even mean? When did we start going down the “wrong track”?
Ronald Regan
So all presidents since Reagan have been the same?
What is with this obsession with trying to normalize the Trump presidency?
I get your point but I don’t think that was his intent.
I may be naive. If so, I’m sorry.
Since bush that I can remember, but probably before that.
Regan. The person you’re thinking of is Regan.
The person you’re thinking of is Regan
Leave her out of this, please. Blame Captain Howdy, not the girl.
I guess we can see where the old captain is right now…
Johnson
Andrew Jackson
In the beginning, America was discovered. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
A lot of slaves would agree with that.
Sounds scientific.
It would have been awesome if my idiot fucking countrymen had done the barest scintilla of research and realized that this was always his fucking game plan
But, it’s fake news though, right? Right?
I am just so sick of saying “I fucking told you so.”
Wait until next spring when the shit really kicks in. Shorten it to IFTYS.
Oh that’s for damn sure
‘bbbuttt… Harris said she’d continue bidens policies!! Waaahhhhh! The parties didn’t field realistic candidates that matched my expectations! It’s the politicians fault!! It’s the systems fault!’
Trump said he’d do much worse, and here we are. Happy yet, sit-outs and ballot spoilers? Ready to take your elections seriously?
Do you really think the media is doing a good job of getting accurate and fair information to voters in an impartial way? Could we improve our electoral system to make it easier and more convenient for working people to vote?
So maybe instead of blaming people as individuals for failing to meet a systemic and worsening series of problems we should expect that our political leaders have some sort of plan for restoring democracy in a way that combats republican corruption.
How do you think fascism happens? Voter apathy?
Trump and Harris had record turnout in 2024. People voting for Trump against Harris in 2024 had a bigger effect than apathy for Clinton in 2016.
Characterizing it this way does not give people a realistic impression of what happened in 2024.
Of voting eligible population the % voting went up from 2016 to 2020 and down from 2020 to 2024. You absolutely can connect voter turnout to this problem as well as increasing barriers to voting.
I think a good number of your countryman wanted his plan.
1/3 as shown by the votes and this poll. Those people are straight up dumb.
And another third of us are so fucking stupid and apathetic they didn’t care enough to vote
And another third of us are losing our minds watching what’s happening right now
Maybe that third that didn’t go to vote has something to do with not presenting someone that made them vote. Someone that represented them, not the wealthy.
Are you happy with the result of that choice?
No. But that doesn’t mean the Dems didn’t fucked it up with Harris… and the rest of things that gave Trump the White House twice.
Trump is only the current chapter of the descent to hell that started with Nixon. If every Dem POTUS had done his job Trump would be only a TV star.
While I get what you’re saying, fascism is not an improvement over neoliberalism.
They can think that when the opposing option wasn’t literal fascism. They’re dumb as fuck when it was.
But it always is fascism. Because the center always goes to the right when the big party starts saying “it’s us or chaos”. Because people start to think “if this isn’t chaos maybe we should try with chaos” or worse: “if those are the options I’m not playing that game anymore”.
The only way to not lean right is by doing real leftist policies, the ones that make people’s life better. And the Dems haven’t done so in decades. Only some crumbs to have social peace but nothing that can be seen as a game change in politics. And I’m not talking about turning the US into a communist country. I’m talking about, maybe, have public housing for those that can’t afford a better place. Having public markets with only first need food (bread, milk, eggs, …) with affordable prices. Having a good public railroad system, payed by the companies that use it, and high speed trains to relay less in flights and cars. Having a public health system where you don’t have to pay cash to be cured. After all, everyone gets sick sometime.
I don’t even know if it requires research to belive that he means the bad things he says. Safe rule of thumb I’ve found for Republicans is assume they are lying about anything positive and telling the truth about the bad things they want to do.
As long as he’s not raising taxes on our rulers, our fellow countrymen are glad to have him over a progressive.
We really are stupid and being herded like sheep.
The crazy thing about the whole SNAP expiration thing is that that’s the “bread” of “bread and circus”. Circus is football. If he or someone in the admin would have made a specific point of making sure food benefits stayed in place, a lot more people would still be content to “stay out of politics” and march along like copacetic lemmings right off the fucking fascism cliff. So, in a dark sort of way… I think this might actually be good in the long run, though it will hurt (and perhaps kill) a LOT of people in the short term.
At the same time, who fucking knows. This is uncharted territory. Last time around, the fascists didn’t have a nuclear arsenal numbering in the thousands, nor did they formerly serve as one of the primary geopolitical lynchpins of democratic order.
it will hurt (and perhaps kill) a LOT of people
It is hurting a lot of people NOW and they haven’t even gotten a good start.
When people revolt just watch: he’s going to bring out Jason Segel and declare Marshall law
Propaganda not only works, it’s been very well refined.
A minimum 1/3 of the US is comprised of Nazis. Nearly every poll shows this.
It never stops shocking me how awful people are. All it took was trump taking the muzzle off for a huge chunk of the country to reveal what shitty people they are.
I think it’s more that a huge chunk of the population have externally defined morality and thus are very malleable. Many many people do not enjoy the hard work of figuring out their own self-consistent views of right and wrong. So they let their culture define it for them, which the people in charge are more than happy to do. So when the prevailing culture told them it was wrong to be racist against black Americans, they believed it. And now that the culture they stew in tells them (e.g.) black Americans are lazy moochers, they believe that.
He still has something like a 43% approval rating. That’s still 100% too much.
You can ask pointed ideological questions to come to whatever conclusions you want in a survey. 1/3 of the US is not Nazis, you obviously either don’t live here or don’t go outside. Nearly every poll does not show this lol.
I mean, I’m not the original commenter and I don’t think they’re literally nazis myself. But ~39% of Americans have stood with Trump through both presidencies. When every poll (popularity, opinions on ICE, shutdown, etc.) seems to land around that same number, it means there is some consistent cohort there.
Many people, and this isn’t just exclusive to the U.S., aren’t racist, but their policy stances have racist outcomes. For instance, people fear crime or the loss or destruction of their property, so almost universally people vote for more policing, despite the lack of evidence that your suburban police department with military equipment makes you any safer.
As Avenue Q says - Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist.
But also, I never said anything about racism. To me it seems like there is a large part of the US that is willing to give up the ideals of our country (due process, free speech, voting rights), if they can get the policies they think they want.
True, and I was just using racism as an example. I guess I also could have just said people regularly vote against their own best interests due to lack of understanding the long-term effects.
I lived in the US for nearly my whole life until I fled earlier this year specifically because of Trump’s (and his supporters’) threats against my communities. His administration is openly composed entirely of Nazis. Anyone who continues to support him is a Nazi, which currently sits at 39%. You don’t openly call for the death of all Latino and trans people unless you’re a Nazi. So yes, that 39% is all Nazis.
Yeah you need to talk to people in the real world, it will do you some good and allow you to re-calibrate your perspective to one more based in reality.
Nobody wants death, as hard as that may be for you to believe. Your conclusion is the one you arrive at when being chronically online and only seeing the worst of the worst (whether true or not or exaggerated partial truths) designed to enrage you to engage and drive algorithms.
Real people are not the political figures you see online, and the stances and beliefs of political figures cannot be automatically applied to every person who voted for them, as much as you might like that. No person is their government or their country.
You have the mindset of somebody looking for a reason why it’s okay to kill 39% of the US population, which ironically gives you something in common with Nazi ideology.
If we keep calling them Nazi’s and they keep calling us radical whatever’s, we just end up killing each other. I think we should not do that.
You need to realize that the things you see and experience are not seen and experienced by other people and vice versa. We’re all operating off of the information we have and our personal experiences. If you had the information and experiences a typical MAGA conservative had, guess what, you’d be a MAGA conservative. Don’t let algorithms and political polarization make you lose your grip on humanity and treat your neighbors like scum.
This shit is why we’re so divided.
“If you had the information and experiences a typical MAGA conservative had, guess what, you’d be a typical MAGA conservative.”
Well POC and LBGTQ people don’t get the privilege of the same experiences MAGA conservatives have. - You live in a bubble
I guess racism and Christian nationalism over a peaceful life for all, is why we’re so divided.
