We are going to run the country

Poorly, I’m sure. But most importantly it will be without the consent of the Venezuelan people. Not that he, or the Americans who support him, care.

I never mentioned Maduro. Not once. I never said he was even a somewhat competent leader, let alone a saint. My problem isn’t that a bad leader had been removed from power, it’s that a nation’s right to sovereignty and independence has been violated.

Maduro may be an awful dictator, but Trump just basically kidnapped a head of state with only his own authorization. Congress never authorized it. This sets a precedent that the president of the United States can detain heads of state without any oversight.

That might mean something if there were any realistic chance that this would result in something better and more democratic, but both given how Trump acts and how US intervention in Central and South America typically goes, odds are that whoever they find will just be a puppet dictator out to extract resources to the benefit of US companies.

“Everybody is in favor on deposing Maduro, but when you kidnap him, oh, you’ve suddenly gone too far”

        (PS. This is sarcasm)

    I watched the whole thing.

Yeah. For all of Trump’s Trumpiness, at least he’s direct. There’s no euphamism: he stated he’s running Venezuela, at least 3 times just in case it wasn’t clear. He wants the “right” kind of ruler to take over. He reiterated that US oil companies are coming in to rebuild their infrastructure, repeatedly. He cited the Monroe doctrine.

    There’s no pretense.

I think this (frankly) refreshing bluntness is what makes the bits of disinformation so effective.

He’s a hawk that’s going to take on Iran and cartels better than past presidents.

He’s American First, putting a stop all these immigrants and foreign wars.

He’s a staunch Christian who will protect Christian values and Israel.

He’s a man’s man, a ladies man, and will take on the Jew pedo conspiracy.

He’s a culture warrior. A president who will bring unity. Pro-business, a megacorp fighter. A small town advocate, and pro crypto, pro tech technocratic libertarian. A strongman who will purge despotic liberals

Basically, voters all got their own personalized version of Trump, and they still kinda get it in their news feeds. So they are getting what they voted for… through a small, warped selectively sliced vision of reality. And Trump’s “condo salesman” style plays into this social media typhoon really, really well.

      Cue “I declare bankruptcy!” GIF

I don’t understand how after listening to him talk you can think “yes the us is running Venezuela now”

A president has attacked a sovereign nation with no authorization from Congress, kidnapped its head of state for no other reason than “making money from oil” and uhh drugs I guess. But legitimacy of the whole thing aside, do you think he’s competent enough to “run” a whole other country?

And how do you imagine the average Venezuelan is taking this? “Oh welp guess we are ‘run’ by the Americans now, better go apply for a job at Exxon”

“They will be in awe of the American greatness! New jobs for the poor stupid people of Venezuela! Liberated by capitalism!”

      - Trump’s mind, probably

I’m sure he’s so old, racist, and a psychopath that he doesn’t really realize there’s millions of living, thinking humans down there

Since he’s running the country, how much effort is being sent on Tren de Agua or any of the other gangs he’s been so adamant are ruining the United states?

    Maduro and Trump are friends

Maduro gets to escape his country and save face instead of being assassinated or executed.

Trump gets to manufacture a conflict so he can start martial law and become a dictator, and to distract from us learning he came inside little girls.
