I feel like I do this a lot with podcasts. I started watching the Gus and Eddy podcast and finished it about a month before the last episode was released for example.
It could be anything though. An online game, an OS, a console, TV show, a forum, or anything else. I’m just curious what people have to say.
It also doesn’t need to be “dead”. It could just be a significant change where a chunk of the community left.
Got into Breaking Bad a bit after it had its series finale, but before Better Call Saul was a thing. I don’t know that the show has ever been “on its way out” though, it just wasn’t being talked about as much at that point.

Just uninstalled earlier this week after years of sinking time into it. I watched the wiggle video and with the current developer drama, I’m fucking done. The game is simply INFESTED with cheaters.

Ethereum mining.
I finally got a decent GPU in the beginning of 2022 and set up a basic rig. In September of that year Ethereum switched to the “proof of stake” model, rendering mining useless. I managed to maybe get a total of $200 worth of Eth in that time, and that was that. Taking into account the cost of electricity, my profit was around $100.
I still mine Ergo. It’s a PoW smart contract platform (like Ethereum) but it’s UTXO like (Bitcoin or Monero).
Lots to like about the chain. I turn some of my mined ERG into SigUSD (algorithmic stablecoin) and then loan it to a lending pool. Currently make 94%APR in USD that way. Been like that for several months.
With my track record, the moment I start mining again is when they fold.

Game of Thrones. I binged the whole 7 seasons right before 8 came out. I think I saved myself a lot of pain and wasted suspense. That ending was fucking embarrassing.

I got into ASOIAF maybe a year ago. I’m glad I was able to go into the fandom knowing what a train wreck the show was and also that it’s entirely possible the books will just never be finished, lol. I’m enjoying the shit out of youtube theory videos though!
I think that’s a much better way to start. Martin is clearly a discovery writer, but he talks like he’s a plotter, and the intricacies of the political machinations imply he’s a plotter, too.
He’s written such a tangled mess that it’s impossible to untangle everything. Plus, he’s made his millions, so there’s not much incentive for him to finish.
I started reading when book 5 was about “due” based on his expected release date he had previously announced thinking that book 5 would likely be out by the time I read up to that point. Over four years later book 5 finally released and I knew in my soul the series would never be finished.

Toys-to-life video games. I went on a Skylanders spending spree less than a year before it officially died. $5-$15 figurines got sold at garage sales for $0.25-$3 each.
I had tons of fun getting into it and I was young enough that I could afford to waste the money, so I regret nothing.
Did they shutdown the servers or something?
The toys-to-life trend ended, as it wasn’t making enough money. The games remain playable, but they have no support and are old enough they they require hardware that I no longer have.
