Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What open source project is the most exciting for you right now?
10·1 month agoI like I2P. Such a cool concept and there are plenty of services that can be built upon it. Most famous for anonymous torrenting I suppose, but it can do so much more.

5·1 month agoI’ve done it on a few subs, so it probably depends on the mods. Haven’t been banned yet.

1·3 months agoI like I2p but it doesn’t solve the problems that zeronet did.
Will have to look into gnunet though. Not sure what that does, or how.

1·3 months agoWasn’t that the idea behind zeronet? I think zeronet is dead(?) now, but it was a fun concept. https://github.com/HelloZeroNet/ZeroNet
Ok, so rewrite the statement using imperial instead. Let’s compare them.
Nobody said impossible, just that you can’t directly relate any of those quantities.
Can’t we just agree that metric is superior?
“In metric, one milliliter of water occupies one cubic centimeter, weighs one gram, and requires one calorie of energy to heat up by one degree centigrade—which is 1 percent of the difference between its freezing point and its boiling point. An amount of hydrogen weighing the same amount has exactly one mole of atoms in it. Whereas in the American system, the answer to ‘How much energy does it take to boil a room-temperature gallon of water?’ is ‘Go fuck yourself,’ because you can’t directly relate any of those quantities.” ― Josh Bazell, Wild Thing

10·5 months agoThe nukes were in Ukraine, but the launch codes and control of them were in Moscow. Also Ukraine were in no position financially to keep them. Getting rid of them were the best option for Ukraine at the time.
The fact that the Americans voted for a demented felon who appointed Kegsbreath the alcoholic is the real problem.

News@lemmy.world•‘Please walk away from Harry Potter’: why the stars of HBO’s new TV show are in for decades of social media hell
36·6 months agoShe did give away a lot of money to charity. About 16% of her wealth when she became a billionaire iirc. Gave to help children in poverty and to fight the disease MS.
I don’t know much about her stance on trans people other than she seems to believe that there is a difference between trans and biological women. Feel free to drop a good link where I can educate myself.
Anyway, reading comments here make it sound like she’s a modern day Hitler that’s never done anything good in her life, and that sounds both unfair and untrue.

12·6 months agoSo that’s reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and incompetence instead.
The shooter should still be prosecuted.

That cop should be prosecuted.

What’s the USP for Mandriva these days?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is one moral you have that most people don't agree with?
1·8 months agoFreedom of Movement (FoM) has worked out pretty well for the EU, especially well before the enlargement. The tensions came with the inclusion of the old “eastern bloc” countries where there was a rather large disparity between them and the richer west. I’m generally in favour of FoM, but I also recognise that with a big difference in standards there will be some issues.
So yes, FoM works, but there has to be rules attached. The UK didn’t apply most of the rules they could have, which eventually led to a perception that FoM is bad, and then Brexit.

Yeah, I can access JF on my phone, but didn’t manage to cast it to the TV where I was. You’re saying it should work “out of the box”?
