Curious as to how many lemmings are still using Meta platforms such as Facebook or Instagram?
Used them professionally for failed business ventures. Never personally. Never saw the appeal.
Hell no i deleted that shit of hatred and ads like 5 years ago.
There’s a boardgame I would like to get the occasionally shows up on marketplace. Once I get it, it’s account deletion time.
Unfortunately yes. Instagram is tied to my industry and work, so I don’t think I’ll be able to fully get away from social media.
My sister has passed away a couple of years ago. She still has an in memoriam account on Facebook. I am afraid to request to remove it as I am not sure whether someone is still looking at it sometimes for comfort. I do want to keep an eye on it in case someone posts something on her wall, so I still have an account myself to check it. That is the only reason. I never do anything else with it and I ditched Instagram.
Facebook can be very useful for organizing events, it has some occasionally useful groups (e.g. when looking for roommates) and marketplace is one of the few places where people still sell things for way below their value (probably correlated to which people still use Facebook). But as a social media platform it is pretty much dead as far as I’m concerned.
I believe I technically still have an account, but I have no clue what the password is, and I’m not about to give up more personal information just to delete it. I haven’t used my FB account in years, and it was actually created for me by some friends back when Tinder still required a FB account.
There’s also an IG account out there that I did create for myself more recently, but also haven’t used in many years, and again, deleting the account feels like too much effort when I can just continue not using it.
I mostly try to avoid clicking any links to content on their platforms, but unfortunately a lot of people/businesses only exist on those platforms, plus some other volunteer work I do kinda requires it, so I do begrudgingly click them sometimes. Thankfully my closest friends have learned to send screenshots instead.
It was cool about 20 years ago!
I gave it up once I realized it wasn’t for human connections anymore around 2018 or so. I remade an account with a fake name in 2020 when marketplace became undeniably big in America
Very much my feelings and timeline. Still using my original account for Marketplace though. There’s no getting away from it, for me anyway.
Never did
This is the way.
No, I had it for awhile, but dropped it around 2017 when the Cambridge Analytica shit dropped and it became apparent why my feed was flooded with crazy polarizing political propaganda that was making people from totally unrelated areas of my life fight each other online. Nothing like seeing a former coworker arguing with your 15 year old cousin over some QAnon conspiracy theory on some post.
I use WhatsApp, but I’m convincing more and more of my friends and family to switch to Signal
I have it, but it’s not my real name. I removed all the photos from my profile about 10 years ago. I don’t have the app on my phone, so I only check it when I’m on my PC. I don’t post to it, rarely comment on other people’s posts, and only occasionally “like” or “love” the comments.
The only reason I keep the account is because if I deleted it, I would lose track of everyone I’ve ever known in my life since high-school onwards (I’m 45, to put that in perspective) that I don’t really communicate with at all anymore, but I still like seeing what they’re up to in life. I don’t know how else/where else I’d be able to do that.
My account still exists, and I will log in maybe once every 6 months when I need to for some reason. But that’s it. Sorta like LinkedIn.
Also no Threads, Instagram, etc.
Nope, I got rid of it when Snowden dropped his info.
